Well I went and looked at the truck and passed. The interior was in pretty good shape, only one tear near the passenger seat that I saw. The underside had been painted/coated and the only visible rust I could see was on the oil pan. In the end it was just too many miles. I was told that the original owner had an unlimited service contract through his job on the truck and anytime something seemed out of place he had it checked out. The dealership showed me all of the service records, it had been cared for pretty well, and has new tires on it also.

However, a guy I work with has a 2000 Quad Cab with only 52000 miles on it that I'm going to look at this week for roughly the same price. Seems like a much better deal.

This thread reassured me a little bit. I have 83k on my 2007 5.7 and I thought that was getting up there in the "high mileage" territory. I was considering trading the truck in before it hit 100K so I wouldn't get hit as hard on trade in.

Seems like these vehicles are hit and miss. You can get a lemon just as easy as you can get à good one.

I think it depends on what kind of repairs you've done and what starts to to wrong.

I've got 92000 on mine I've had to make repairs that I feel I shouldn't have had to make yet but it hasn't been bad enough to force me to get rid of it...yet.

I'm hoping mine will last until 150000 without alot of problems. By then my wife's car should be paid off and I won't complain as much about getting a new one.

Having said all that my daily driver has become my 89 ford ranger, that's had fewer repairs than my Dodge, so I haven't been putting as many miles on the Dodge. Hopefully that will stretch out the longevity.

I have two 1999 ram 1500 pickups, one with 280,000 had to put in a transmission at 222,000. Has the stock 5.9 all I did to the engine was a new timing chain. It runs like a champ. the other has the 5.2, and 230,000 still strong, but may need a tranny soon...

Well let me toss in a quick update (to bring this thread back). I just picked the truck up from a transmission shop, they did a complete rebuild on the 46RE for $1730. This was the first time for transmission repairs and the odometer reads 233,432 miles!

Let me ask all the high mileage guys, beyond the engine and trans, how well has the rest of the truck held up? Are the interior parts cracking and tearing? What kind of repairs have you had to make with things like power windows, door locks, anything on the dashboard ...etc?

engine replaced @365k (worked fine, just oil burn)
radiator just done, small leak
steering rack and pump @ 320k due to noise
COndensor motor 2x
Tie rod ends 2x

cabin blower motor needs replacing currently
Leak in hose for AC current

Interior, small tears in arm rest, wore out carpet under drivers side.... That is it...

Sadly due to accident it has been replaced. Ill keep it as a spare after fixing it but my new daily driver is a 2014 1500 5.7 hemi big horn....

Mine's not High mileage compaired to some on here. But, I have 143,775 on the body. Had to replace the engine at 138,000 . Shocks were toast so I put new Bilstiens all around. The middle arm rest is shot due to me always having my elbow dig into it. Other than that, the interior has held up quite well. Just noticed a dollar sized rust bubble on the bottom of the front passenger door and the bottom inside of the tailgate.
Still think it's the best looking truck out there.
