high mileage survey
I have a 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 Laramie SLT, 5.2/318 motor with well over 225,000 miles on it and still counting. I just recently had the transmission rebuilt and only problem on it is the cruise control stopped working. I am currently doing research on finding out the best motor oil to put in it since it has such high miles on it and a rebuilt transmission if that would make any difference on the motor or not. If anyone has any suggestions for a good motor oil and filter I am all ears.

I have an 06 Quad Cab 1500 SLT with the 5.7. I'm approaching 120k miles and am trying to decide between keeping the truck and continuing to invest in it's longevity or trading in on something newer with less miles. I've got quite a bit of time and money invested in the truck already, but there is also quite a bit more I would need to do in the near future if I decide to keep it. So my question is this: how many miles are most of you seeing out of these Hemi's (or these trucks in general) before you really get into some major issues? Are they consistently going 200k miles?
I know it's rather vague but figured I'd ask.

I know of a lot of hemi's that go over 200k miles, its a solid motor but longevity all comes down to maintenance. If you take care of it that motor will last a long time , same goes for the transmissions. IMO thats the best auto trans they put in any older 1500 series trucks, I owned a grand cherokee with 245k on it, original trans.
New stuff is fun but like you said you have a lotta time and money into yours, its nice to have a vehicle you know the history on. Overall the drivetrain, if properly maintained, should last well into the 200k mile range. Suspension parts might need replacing in that time though.

I've got close to 150k on my truck. No mechanical complaints, I think all I did was replace the p/s rack after 100k. Other than that, a crack in my dash that's still growing. Mechanically it's still running good. Our 94 ram had 300+ when we sold it. We put a new trany in it, nothing major. It was a 5.9 though. My in laws 05 grand caravan made it over 350k before it was parked due to a crack in the radiator/cooling system. And a 05 300 c went over 250k. So it all depends on how you maintain it and if you would rather spend money on a payment every month or buying parts
My 07 is sitting at 99,495. I just put new tires on it so I know I'll keep it to at least 140,000 then I'll take a another look at it. I'd like to go for 200k, that would be at least another 8 years or so since I'm only driving it twice a week.
The motor and trans aren't the issues, it's everything else. My wife's 01 grand Cherokee had only 94, 000 on it when we traded it in but it was quite literally falling apart. Motor never had an issue but heater cores, radiator problems, suspension problems, trans problems, dead batteries every 2 years almost to the day, electronic stuff, failing window motors...then the interior completely started coming apart. Cracks all through the dash console and seats...and this thing was babied.
If my truck starts all that crap it's gone.
