Default Should nerf bars move 3" when you step on them?

Probably sounds like a stupid question, but I just got the truck (02 QC), I've had a few trucks before, all with nerf bars, and they've all been solid. These are mounted to the body mounts with two brackets, absolutely no bracing whatsoever, and even though I'm assuming that's the design, I can't stand the fact that they give so much when I use them. Is this normal? Should the body bolts be tighter?

And on a side note, why the hell do they call them "nerf" bars?

No idea why they're called nerf bars, but no, they shouldn't move that much (unless you weight like 500lbs) when you step on them.

Yep, shouldn't budge. When I was up around 330 lbs. mine wouldn't move when I stepped on them. Now, at 245 lbs. they just say "thank you" when I step on them... LOL...

I learned the hard way years ago about buying knock-off brand nerfs. Now all I buy is Westin...

As for why they are called "NERF BARS", I haven't a clue - but it depends on the application. On trucks they are NERFS, on Jeeps they are ROCK SLIDERS...

A "nerf" is a small, sometimes intentional, collision between two cars in which one driver bumps the other to facilitate a successful pass.

HHMMMGH, I did not know that!

It's been awhile, but I'm pretty sure the last set I put on a Dodge had brackets on the body mounts like these, AND braces that stabilized them. Somethin tells me torquin on those body mount bolts is a bad idea. I've broken off a captive nut doing a body lift in the past, and I really don't wanna go there again.

I've already got a couple grand worth of goodies comin for it in the next few days, I guess a new set of nerf bars won't hurt too bad.

Where did you find that? I'm gonna print that off and show it to the cop after I get pulled over for testing these out tomorrow. If they're getting replaced anyway, I might as well put 'em to good use.
