Default muffler too loud

hey all, its been a while since i posted but basically title says it all i have an at3030xl installed, that was way too loud when towing especially for the kids, so i had the ar30 resonator installed, truck is fine at idle but still pretty loud, again when towing its pretty unbearable.

truck is an 07 2500 hemi quad cab 4x4 6foot box, love the truck but needing some ideas on a quiter muffler, was thinking a magnaflow 24in body? if i go this route do i keep the rear rs i installed for the at3030xl? any advice or help would be greatly appreciated

I feel your pain man....been there and done that. I'll list the exhausts I have had on my truck.

1. Glasspack with dual tailpipes (came with truck when I bought it)
Sounded goodish....but loud.

2. Next I had a Magnaflow 14" muffler, too loud, bad drone.

3. Next a Magnaflow 5x8x24 part # 12279. Quieter, still had drone.

4. Now I'm running a stock muffler off a '09 with dual outlets. No resonator. Just a little louder then stock. No drone.

My advice, look into a large Flo-Pro muffler, mainly the big oval series. Good flow, no drone and liveable sound. Good luck!

I think my magna flow is about the same sound unloaded as when I pull the 14Ft enclosed trailer.. Maybe a touch louder do to the sound bouncing off the front of the trailer..

Aero Stealth 3" si/so with stock resonator. It's a large oval body muffler. Single exit in stock location will help eliminate drone, and the factory resonator really quiets the system down. Still sounds awesome when I put my foot into it, but at cruising speed, sounds pretty mellow. This is on a QCSB 4x4.

thanks for the posts, being a 2500 it never had a rear res but i think whatever i go with, i will keep the ar30 res on. i kept the stock exit location. seems like every shop around here suggest magnaflow but i've had maggies on three different trucks and everyone of them drones, even though most places say they dont

I hear yah...most people claim their Magnaflow don't drone. Mine did and thats why they came off.

hey jdpartsman, is there a huge difference from the 06-08 mufflers to the 09 and up mufflers? aside from the dual out. i was looking for a bit of a rumble but nothing crazy, thought i could live with the aero but guess not

I have an 18" oval bodied Mag exiting out the side. I've towed ALOT. No drone and very mellow.
Duals out the back, you'll get drone no matter what.

Don't get custom exhaust if it will bug you. Aftermarket exhaust systems are not designed to be quiet that's what stock is for. There's no such thing as quiet custom exhaust. If you really have your heart set on it, then try forza flow. It's the quietest you'll find imo, but it's still not quiet.
