It shouldn't be that hard to keep it from flopping around, it comes up so close to the side of the truck, at least with the filter I got, that it was pretty easy getting some brackets to hold up from the bottom and around the side a little. I used a roof rafter holder which has like a u shape but with one leg of the u a lot shorter than the other. I drilled a hole in the sheet metal to attach it to the truck but you could probably use one or both of the holes from where the airbox came out.

My only concern is how the whole thing is facing downward and not forward so I don't see how you're getting enough air. I'm not doubting that you are but if someone can explain it to me I would feel better about it. Is it just the air coming from underneath instead of head on?

hmm.... not really sure what you mean. You mean like the tip of the filter is pointing down? The air comes in through the sides of the filter, not the tip. If that's not what you mean you will have to clarify a bit more, not sure what else you would be talking about.

I know its coming through the side of the filter but is it the vacuum from TB and air thats sucking the air into the TB or what. Science or physics isn't my strongest area lol but it would seem like the air just passes through the filter the way its set up without much air actually going into the pipe

There may be a small amount of air passing clear through, but yes the engine does "suck" the air in. Think about a pressurized vessel (the cylinder with a piston in it) when it upstrokes it sucks air and fuel into the piston, like a vacuum. Of course fuel is injected with fuel injectors nowadays, but air is sucked in. Then the downstroke obviously combusts. Any air that makes it through the filter will likely get sucked into the intake since you have 8 cyljnders firing at however many (thousands) of rpms its basically a constant pull of air, giving the air no time to pass through the filter.

Hope that helps a little, i dont know all the technical terms but the basic idea is there.

also if you think about it, if the engine only got air by ramming it in there, it would stall when sitting still or idling.

Hats off! I was thinking about doing something like this to mine; I did it with 4" PVC on my old Chevy 305 (air inlet went straight from passenger fender to air intake).

What did you use to couple the pipe to the filter & TB?
