Default Sticky Situation

Can anyone give me advice on how to get these chrome bad boys off? I recently bought this truck and would like to put a ******* Speedsturr lid on it.

Example:

However, unlike the back chrome thingy (what do you call these? lol) that was bolted onto the tailgate, the ones along the side of the truck look like they have some kind of double sided adhesive. I'm afraid to just try and pull them off. I'm getting my truck waxed this weekend and want these gone. I also need them off if I'm going to put a truck lid on.

Anyone have advice on how I should approach removing these?

Thanks.

First I would study them a little more and if it's an adhesive I would take a small or medeum flat head screw driver with a microfiber rag and try to separate the adhesive from the chrome bed board I'm not saying that will work but that's what I would try to do

I'm sure they are just 3M taped on. Start at one end with fishing line and cut the adhesive away from under the chrome and then use a simple eraser wheel to take the leftover tape and residue off the truck, just like you would if you were debadging...

The flat head and cloth worked. However, the flat head went through the cloth a few times. I got me a few scratches (my fault). Very minor though. With the ******* lid over the truck, they won't be seen. Can I buy touch up paint?

I will try the fishing wire on Thursday. That sounds a heck of a lot easier if it works! I successfully got one off and now it's dark so I must wait to do the other.

Here is what it looks like...
NOTE: The white is the adhesive, not my paint. I just had to use flash since it was dark.

I will look into getting an eraser wheel to get this stuff off.

Thanks for the help.

I second the fishing line. Use a heat gun if you have to to soften up the adhesive.

The fishing line helped some! I still had to use a flat head and cloth to pry some of the more heavy adhesive parts where the line would keep breaking. I only have a few small scratches. I'd still like to touch them up though. What do you guys think of http://www.automotivetouchup.com/ or is there anything better I can use?

Thanks !

its totally worth it just to go pick it up, pop it on the drill and take care of it. Just go slow and easy so you don't burn through the clear coat.

Can the eraser wheel cover areas of the paint that have been chipped away though?

I mean if the paint is chipped away then it could possibly cause some more of it to chip away. But if its just some scratches or something then it will be fine as long as your careful and just keep an eye on it as you do it.

Why are you trying to eraser wheel the areas that the paint is gone; are you talking about a scratch or actually paint that is peeling off? I assume where ever the paint got pulled away, the glue is what pulled it off so there shouldn't be much residue left.
