Actually the largest gear ratio (numerically) for our rear ends is 4.88 but that's only possible if you have a 2WD. But everything else has been nailed on the head pretty much. S/C kits run about 6-7k and an ATS tranny will run about another 3-4k. Not to mention everything else you will need to go with it (wiring harnesses, fluids, stall converters, torque converters). As for the engine, upgrade as many parts as you can to 6.1 parts as they are much stronger since they are meant for higher horsepower.

* Stronger Rods

* Cams (you will have to pick specs based on what S/C and goals you have in mind)
* All New Valve Springs & Push Rod Assemblies + Related Components
* NEW ENGINE MANAGEMENT SYSTEM & CUSTOM DYNO-TUNE! (Most Important!)
* New Gears & Trans to Support the power.

To be honest if I had allllll that $ to spend on my truck, I'd sell my truck and go buy a Diesel... Those are way more fun to play with than gasoline trucks, but that's just what I would do. Can't go wrong with upwards of 14:1 Compression AND a Turbo, he he he...

Good luck though... Definitely get a spare motor....
I am actually talking to a guy about this. He is going to start recommending different options on all of this.

You may also want to invest in some better oil and trans coolers...

I'm telling you if you go test drive a Diesel you will fall in love with it...

Go to your local Dodge Ram dealer that has a Diesel on the lot and take it for a test drive, unless you're like 19 years old they should let you test drive it.... Just go there and say "I'm looking for a Diesel, I need something that's a little better around the construction site..." they'll get a nice greedy look in their eyes and take you right over to one.

Then just take it for a spin... wind her up a little bit and let loose.

You CAN NOT go wrong with a nice Cummins Turbo Diesel my man... TRUST ME!

If you want to mod out a diesel though look for a 5.9. A lot easier and probably cheaper to mod out than a 6.7

ya lookin at the diesel section the other day, these guys getting their 6.7's have to do 3 different deletes just to get the truck running right for more than a couple thousand miles at a time because of the emissions. an 01-09 cummins 5.9 is a lot easier to work with
