Default 3m headlight restoration kit

As it gets colder out my plastic headlight covers get bridle and I have actually broken a little piece off of one taking it off for night driving. So I'm trying to increase light output. Going to dump the 30,000k purple hid's for some 8 or 10 thousands. Also some off-road lights since i drive gravel and never see any traffic. First step however is cleaning these things! Ive tried all the restorers by car cleaner companies, Meguiars (good company, just their solution didnt work), turtle wax, and mothers. none worked at all. But as a bodyman I have good faith in 3m products. Picked this up at walmart for 18 bucks and couldn't be happier. Going to need a second kit though these lights were tarnished something terrible!

the kit

a buffing pad, 500, 800, and 3000 trizact pads, witha softpad interface for any drill, i have the scratch removal system they offfer and it has a solid interface system.

before-

500 grit sanding -

after the 800 and a trizact-

polished up good as new!!!!

30k's and plastic headlight covers. Im amazed you could see past 30 feet. But going to 8 - 10k is nicer, its still more of the color then the funtionality of the HID. 4000k would give better light. Ive been holding off on HIDs waiting for a decent set to be made, but then i changed my mind since they are becoming increasingly illegal for the road.

Keep that kit handy. You will need to repeat this process almost every year to keep them clear. I did it to my mom's 07 Civic in May and they are already needing it again. I used the Rain-X kit tho. no power tools to be used, just hand sanding pads. Yours might last longer.

On my girlfriends old car, all I did was sand the headlights with 2000 grit sandpaper, clean it up with soapy water and spray with tremclad clear coat spray bomb. Worked like a charm and as far as I know, the current owner of the car still has crystal clear headlights after I did them 4ish years ago.

Worked pretty good.

if your set on hids for bright thats fine, but for normal bulbs, sylvania silver star ultras are wicked bright. i had them in my 06 jetta and the difference from stock was ridiculous, i wouldnt even need to use my high beams beacause the lows were so good. looking at getting a set for my fogs and headlights to really light it up.

I have Silverstar Ultra right now, but I am going to put zXe in as soon as one burns out. My buddy has them in his F150 and they look sweet.
