Finally got to use my 4x4
And WOW....just WOW.
I was driving a RWD car for about 5 years before I got the truck, and I had gotten pretty good at driving that car in some deep snow. It only had snow tires on the rear so steering wasn't so great, but the V8 over the front end helped.
It finally snowed enough last night to let me take the truck out for a spin in the snow and test out my 4WD.
I cannot believe what a difference it makes just having the front wheels assist. I could easily drive down the road doing the speed limit while (most) others could barely handle half the limit.
Going around corners happened with ease, there was no slipping when taking off from a dead start, and I only have all seasons on the rims now. If I could afford snows on all 4's this truck would be un-stoppable in it's entirety.
How did I live without this?

While it's a great feeling to be able to do pass all the other cars (and lets be honest, who doesn't like doing it), just try to imagine what would happen if someone spun out in front of you; in 4WD, all your wheels will lock up at once if you hit the brakes too hard, then you have NO control. Ask me how I know...

I was safely enjoying the new found control the truck affords me. I wasn't about to speed up and pass someone across lanes, I was just able to drive faster with more control than most.
I've never owned a set of winter tires and never intend to, unless my province makes it mandatory, which Selinger has said he won't do.
I owned a Dakota 2wd with all seasons, and that was rough in the winter, but if you don't drive like a fool, any combination of tires and vehicle will be fine.

I seem to remember reading 90km/h in the manual (roughly 55MPH). I could be wrong, since it's been a while since I've read it.
i believe you're thinking the speed limit for shifting from 2wd to 4wd hi in a truck with a manually shifted transfer case. Theoretically there is no speed limit in 4wd hi, but it is generally recommended not to drive at excessive speeds while in 4x4. I do not hesitate to put my truck in 4x4 at highway speeds if the roads are icy/slippery and the situation warrants it. I wouldn't recommend running it in 4x4 at high speeds all the time, but it's not going to hurt it if the roads are slick.
