Default Question about motor

If I posted this in the wrong place sorry..My buddy has a 2000 Durango with the v8 magnum.318. He seems to think it's the same motor as my 5.7 hemi.So my question I guess is what's the difference in them? I know there nothing alike but I have to show him that he's a dumb a**.. Thanks for any and all info

Well for one its a 5.2L engine instead of a 5.7L. Also the Hemi's are Hemis because of their hemispherical combustion chamber as opposed to a typical wedge like one. Although our Hemi's are not truly "Hemi's" they are the close. It's more of a semi-hemi lol

Yes, and they build a lot more H.P. per cube than the 318/ basically one hp per cube, and that on the earlier years, the newer ones are even better

Sounds like your buddy is not as familiar with engines as he'd like to be.

I have to agree with this opinion. Your friend has no idea of what he is talking about. The two engines dont even remotely resemble one another, not to mention the obvious mechanical differences. It seems to me he just wants to try to brag about something he doesn't have. Steal his durango and lose him as a friend. We don't need a person with such limited brain function driving one of our beloved Dodges

??? Eight pistons, pushrods, block & heads, crankshaft, camshaft, etc., etc. Lotsa resemblance, just not the same engine.

And other than the block and heads, which also don't look like a hemi, you cant see a single thing you quoted from the outside of the motor, and I seriously doubt that goober has ever even looked inside a block to see what was in there. So like I said, to any normal individual, it would be obvious that his 5.2, looks nothing like his friends hemi, from the outside. Get it?

individual coil packs as opposed to a dizzy.. 16 spark plugs as opposed to 8... width of valve covers.. location of cylinder plugs.. design of intake manifold.. old hemi's had dizzy on front of block, all LA/magnum blocks have it under firewall.. biggest thing? the dang factory puts a big ol' plastic shield on newish hemi-'like' engines that reads HEMI, and is pretty hard to miss..
