Default 2003 single cab with dual exhaust

I just bought a 03 ram single cab 4.7l 2wd a few days ago and I want to up the sound some. I am wondering if I can put a dual exhaust on my truck without heavy modification? I tried searching but couldn't find the answer.

What do you mean by heavy modification? A true dual exhaust system can get pretty expensive if you take it somewhere to have it done. If you just want a little extra sound then just get a Magnaflow. I had a single Magnaflow on my 2008 and it sounded good.

well assuming you want remove the Y single setup then yeah its going to take some modification to go from a single to a dual setup. Easier would be a SI/DO setup so you keep the Y but have a dual exit.

I probably would start with just a muffler. From my understanding I either need a glass pack style bullet muffler or a center inlet and offset outlet, is that correct?

Would changing out the Y be beneficial even if I just replace the muffler? From what I have read, the Y on these trucks is very restrictive.

Which Y is good to get? Which inlet/outlet do I need to just replace the stock muffler? Is there a specific length the muffler has to be?

my truck is a 03,single cab, 4.7L, short bed, 2wd. I had the exhaust modified when it was about 2 weeks old. I had a series 50 Flowmaster with SI/DO and the pipes run straight back and exited under bumper. I could trip the alarms of cars 3 deep around me by simply revving the engine. If you want a nasty sounding truck then this is the way to go. I had a lot of remarks about how loud mine was. The drone was tolerable with the windows up. After about 6 years it rusted through, some caused by the wet weather in the Northwest and some caused by the act of dipping the system in water every time I launched my boat. Went to a Magnaforce catback stainless steel SI/SO exiting on the right rear corner and couldn't be happier. Still has a mellow exhaust and none of the harshness of the Flowmaster

Would either of these work fine? Does it matter if the inlet/outlet is center or offset?

Any suggestions on a new Y fitting? Also, How much does it usually cost to have a muffler shop custom bend and install piping for a dual exhaust if I bought a SI/DO muffler? I know its different everywhere, but I'm looking for an estimate.

you can either buy the magnaglow y pipe or have a shop fab it for you. The offset shouldnt matter much, the shop will be able to make it work. Shouldnt be more than a couple hundred bucks to have them do y pipe back to new muffler(s) and out to tips. Maybe 300 max.
