Default The be-all-end-all 4.7 HO/Magnum question thread.

Yes I've searched, I'm still confused.

Some 4.7's say just 4.7 V8 on the intake, others (like mine) say 4.7 V8 Magnum, others say 4.7 V8 Power Tech...

What is the difference? Wikis article on these engines lists the HO/Magnum engines together, while others say the Magnum branding has literally no meaning at all in regards to the HO engines.

My build sheet says "Engine - EVA - "Magnum" 4.7L V8 Engine"

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chrysler_PowerTech_engine
Then later it lists the option EVA and "Magnum" 4.7L V8 Engine

They're very specific about listing the Magnum portion. So what is it? A 4.7? A 4.7 Magnum? A 4.7 HO? A 4.7 Power Tech?

I doubt the Magnum means anything. I have a 2004 4.7l Magnum that was built as a fleet truck and it is a pretty basic machine. The only real options I have above base are 4-wheel ABS, bright bumpers, and a CD player.

There are some exceptions but typically the pre 08 4.7's are dogs and the 08+ 4.7's are not.

The Magnum name was a carry over from the 2nd gen era where we had the 318 and 360 Magnums. The Jeep 4.7s were PowerTech branded.

Watch out for the rare 08 4.7 with the six speed. They have been known to take out a hemi or two.

Yeah, if the Hemi was:

towing a camper
and a dirtymax
up a hill
with a misfire
on 87 octane
with a full payload
with the AC on
locked in overdrive

You might be surprised, I rode in one once and it moved with a good driver. It would probably give your rig a run for its money.

You're right! I should find one of these, I've been wanting to see what my truck looked like from behind
