Default 05 to 06 comparison

besides the obvious headlights and bumper, or basically the front end cosmetically being different. what else is different? are the frames the same as far as width, and height? just bought a grill guard for my 05, and it came off an 06. just looked at part numbers and they are different. i'm not alarmed as i can make it fit, and fit like it is supposed to, i was just wondering what all could be that different that the part numbers would be different. and should the 06 be considered the 4th gen, and the newer ones 5th gen?

Your grill guard most likely has a different number because the grills and the headlight are different. Alot of those companies make the guard to fit around the grill and the lights. As far as the frame goes, they should be identical.

The front frame are and some suspension (the 4wd's went from t-bars to coil struts) were redesigned. Also went from PCI bus electrical system to CAN bus.

Odd, I thought 06 went with multi-cylinder displacement (removed words). Wife had an 05 and now has an 04. K.

Front suspension, MDS, total electrical, interior update, various smaller external aesthetic changes, such as light covers and the tailgate spoiler, as well as the obvious front aesthetic changes.

changes like that should make it a 4th gen, not a 3rd gen, lol. just makes sense to me like interchangeable parts...... not much from an 06 will work on an 05, so to me it's a 4th gen truck.

I've always referred to them as "Gen 3.5".
