My dad brought our truck to a shop to have a new muffler put on we both drive the truck.The guy said they didnt have the right muffler but he had one with the same inlet and outlet that he could make work,So my dad figures ok go ahead think they will make it fit the way the old muffler was.Turns out he only saved 50 bucks and the muffler is now 5 1/2 inches lower than the stock muffler and i flipped out when i saw it.so he goes back and they wont give him his money back cause he bought it and had it put on.he said put the old muffler back on and just give him the money back but no maybe we can get it up a little higher .I dont think so dont need this truck hacked anymore.So now my poor dads out 250 bucks with a silly looking low hanging muffler and is now going to oder the right muffler online if we can find it and sell the new muffler on craigs list.Why is this muffler so hard to find?cause the trucks age?its just the stock muffler for an 03 ram 1500 5.7 regular cab everytime we go to a parts store they give us the wrong muffler then we return it...tell me what you think I guess he got ripped off! look at the way it sits my foot is higher than it when i put it next to it small claims court?ripped off? call dmv?he singed a paper but it only is for a warranty.

 

wow they screwed that up....i think you can get stock replacement mufflers and tail pipes from rock auto

250 bucks to replace a muffler?????? We used to do full exhaust systems for less than that..... And the mufflers aren't hard to find, likely they simply just didn't have one in stock at the moment. (someone else got it. )

That is a terrible hack job, and something I would have NEVER let leave the shop.

 

It takes a lot of labor hours to do something wrong like they did. Have them put the correct muffler on.Lesson learned on this one. The I can make it work is almost never good.

 

Thats their labor charge and they welded it on took the guy 2 hours the muffler was 100 i think we could of got one on ebay for 69 bucks,the old muffler was clamped on i dont understand why they just didnt put new clamps on.. of course muffler shops make money off it.HE took it back today the guy admitted it was'nt right and got it on right .the tail pipes a little off but not to bad i take another pic later.Anyway what they do is the buy a bunch of mufflers with the same inlet and outlet and make them fit or try to make them fit i dont get that.why not order the right one?lol

 

The guy doing the work is just a young guy hes not the owner hes running the shop for the owner but the owner is never there hes owns a few shops.WE asked the guy to get the right muffler and he wont answer us when we ask.because he would have to pay for it and now this muffler is usedhe said we bought the muffer and its on the truck so no. and its not haning down but now the tail pipe is 9 inches off the grond so he gets the muffler up better cause he took those hanger sticks and re welded them if different places.if it snows snow will go into the tailpiple and blamed the tail pipe being bent wrong but the other guy i had put it on.its not bent its downt line up right becuae its not the muffler for dads trucks lol.We have no choice now to report him he will not give us the right muffler i think he will get in trouble if hes does and i wish i can find the owner of the shop to show him what hes done to our truck im sure he wont give me his number.what a nightmare.were not sure what to do at this point he even got kinda mad at my dad what would you do?he should of never told my dad he can make the muffler work on our truck.

 

Take a LOT of good pictures of the truck. Take it to another muffler shop, and have it fixed right. Take more pictures. Take the original muffler shop to small claims court, to get your money back. I have no doubt you will win the case.

I measured the new muffler the one that he said he could make work and then says it's was the right muffler. The reason the tail pipe didn't fit right is because the new muffler is 2 inches shorter so he welded a few sections in to make it fit right because since it is 2 inches shorter the tail pipe was to low.Now it hangs right but i'm wondering by having a muffler that's 2 inches shorter and not the right muffler if it could causes issues?Dad's so mad he wont even talk about it anymore.The guy lied straight to our faces saying it's the right muffler and a few days ago telling us he can make it work that means its not the right one lol.We wont be going back there again
