Transmission on my 2002 1500 2wd went out, I have a 2005 I believe parts truck it’s a 4x4. Wondering if the transfer case and my tail stock are interchangeable?…. My trucks also a 4.7 the parts truck is 5.7…. I’ve heard the bell housing mounts up.. wondering if I could pull its trans and swap my tail stock and slap it in my 02.

 

Check part numbers on the output shaft of the trans. If they are different from 2 or 4 wheel drive, then no. Won't work. If they are the same though.... Good chance it will.

Of course, there may have been year to year changes in trans controls as well..... And that, I just don't know about.

 

Same trans. Pull the t-case adapter off the replacement and put your tailshaft on it. There's no gasket, just RTV. The process will look like this:
