Default TOW/HAUL???????

ok so maybe a dumb question, but on the ram forum i was reading and some people were saying that you only use tow/haul when pulling a load in (hilly conditions) i have always thought you use tow/haul ANYTIME you are pulling a trailer. could anyone clear this up for me.???

I would use tow/haul any time I am pulling something, and use OD off in really hilly areas. I would think you would risk wearing out the 5th gear if you only used tow/haul in hilly situations.

They just shut off different sets of overdrive gears. tow haul shuts off the 4th overdrive gear and overdrive off shuts off all overdrive gears.

Yes it takes longer as it only uses the 12345 gears and not the 2,3 prime gears and the 4,5 overdrive gears. It uses the best gears and strongest clutches.

Yes, tow/haul keeps the transmission in each gear into upper revs, keeps the rpm increase smooth as to not jerk the load and also keeps it from upshifting when going down steep grades to serve as an engine brake. I was highly impressed by my new baby while pulling a double axle 16' trailer with 4 quads and the bed full of camping stuff, ice chests, and a generator. I actually felt like tow/haul served a purpose vs my old chevy.

yeah thats what i thought, so in summary when pulling any trailor keep tow/haul on the whole time.

FD9292- what kind of truck do you have, and is your trailer enclosed?

Good question. But what is the OD button for then? I have an automatic transmission, and have the OD button.

the O/D off button on your 02 serves the same purpose as our tow/haul it just doesn't keeping it revving as much. If you are under a load or towing turn your over drive off.
