bed rail issue ??
Anyone have any ideas? Help?
I have an '07 Ram 1500 Quad Cab (short bed)
I had issues when installing my tonneau cover because the tailgate has a factory installed composite spoiler. I think that most of the 07's came with this raised tailgate cover/spoiler.
Because of thespoiler being higher than the bed rails, I was not able to close the tailgate when the tonneau cover was mounted tight to the bed rails. I have temporarily rigged up a spacer to fit under the tonnaeu rail, just at the end of the bed rail to raise it up high enough to allow use of the tailgate.
This is both an eyesore and causes a leak, because itcreates about a 1/2" gap between the bedrail and the tonneau cover rail.
My question is..... does anyone have a solution to this problem?
I have considered purchasing bed rail protectors which would raise the height of the bed rails, but none seem to be thick enough to do the trick. I've also considered removing the tailgate cover/spoiler, but I really like it and would prefer to leave it.
Has anyone else encountered this problem?? and what did you do to solve it?
thanks alot

You could try having the rails get slightly higher from the front to the back, or return it and get a lo profile tonneau cover. I know for a fact that the access laredo fits with the tailgate spoiler.
I have a tonneau and it come with extra foam tape and cut pieces. In the instructions it details how to add tape in differant places to raise the back to clear the spoiler without lossing waterpoof seal. What tonneau do you have? If you want I'll post a couple of pics of the rails where I added the tape.
You can remove it,but you will have four square holes across the gate about three inches down from top edge of the gate. There is a plastic protector that goes across the top of the gate that will cover the holes. That will let your cover come down flush all around. Another option is to have a body shop fill the holes and repaint as I did.
Thanks for the advice. I'd really like to keep the spoiler on. I could resort to buying another tonneau thatmay fit better, but I was looking for advice on making this one work.
Dodgeramman: Pictures would be great.
I'd like to see what the tonneau frame gap looks like after you filled it with foam.
thanks again

What kind of cover did you get? Not sure if there is much difference in your 07 compared to my 06, but with my Access cover, there was no problem with the tailgate, even better is the fact that I can lock both the tailgate and the cover. My cover is not exactly flush with bed rails, but no leaks and it's not that noticeable. I watched the guys do the install and even for them it took a couple of tries before the tailgate would close properly. Sorry it doesn't solve your dilemma with your cover, but if decide on another cover take a look at Access covers.
Let us know how you make out.

In this one you can see the added foamto raisethe corner it'sthe darker one on the bed.

This one you can see two small pieces to raise the side rail up at the back. After the two pieces are put on A 16"strip is put over them going toward the front. Thats how you get the slope.Sorry about the glare but you can't see the pieces on the next one.

This one you can see the gap for the back. Also you can see the stripe that runs to the front filling the post hole in the rail. The next time I take off the cover I will probably trim it off so it cant be seen.

This is the front gap.
