I just found this forum so here I go with all my questions. I bought my Dodge Ram 1500 SLT 5.7 hemi 3 days ago. I was wondering if I am supposed to run 89 octane gas in it? I have not even had much time to read my maual. Any help will help.
Thanks
They recommend 89 in the manual, but also say that 87 may be used if you don't noticed any knocking. If you get a programmer like the superchips you will be able to run 87 octane more efficiently.
Dodge recomends all Hemi motors to run 89oct. You will lose hp if you use a 87. The motor will retard timing to reduce knocking, this will drop your hp down. You can use 87 but why would you want to?
You can run it off whatever you choose, however the manual states 89 is what you should run. To be honest I have never run anything less than 89 in any of my vehicles.
yah same here....usually always 89 or higher except when gas prices get like they are/were and then i'll use 87 cause it's usually about $.10-15 a gallon cheaper then 89
