Default K&N Drop in Air Filter

Two weeks ago i purchased my first Dodge Hemi 1500. It's an 05 with only 37000 miles on it but has the 8 year 80,000 mile warranty. Anyway i took it back to the dealer to have them fix some chips in the paint. I pulled in and this guy kept staring at me, i mean this guy would not stop starring at my new truck. This guy was a machanic in the dodge shop. He came up to me and told me his name was Sean and that he just tradding that truck in.
So now i know everything there is to know about this truck and how he drop it. Some interesting things he told me. Now mind you this is my first Dodge 1500 with a Hemi. This guy has been working on Dodges for 20 some years.
1. You can change the speed sensors from the front to the back and get 345 hp to the rear wheels. He said he did this and was amazed at the power the Hemi had. He had to change it back.
2. I told him i put a K&N drop in air filter in since i heard they were less restrictive. He told me to take it out. He said what happens is the oil in the K&N filter gets into the throttle housing and mucks it all up. So he showed me how to clean out the throttle body housing.
Thought i would pass this on to you guys.

No offense intended here... but you need to find a new mechanic. There is no real need to even go into how far out there this guy is.

K&N are the best drop in filters you can buyand their CAI/filter is not anything to complaint about either. Either K&N has the world fooled or that mechanic is fooled. I'm betting on that mechanic being fooled.

Well there is some truth to what he says. There is a TSB on the Throttle Body coking up on the Hemi. It will give false codes and even cause stalling. The fix is removing the TB and cleaning it with brake cleaner only, carb and choke cleaner will damage the components of the TB. Could K&N oil cause it? Possibly. Doubtful if you don't over oil it. More then likely the mechanic has seen many trucks come in with dirty TB and also sporting K&N's.

Obviously that is because you have not tried moving your speed sensors from the front to the rear to pick up an extra ~80WHP. Something to think about... [8D]Again, sorry to be so sarcastic, just that it reminded me of AOL chat rooms way back in the day. On a serious note though, MADHEMI congrats on an awesome looking truck!!!

If Ram owners would buy a $8 stopwatch
and do 3 accelerations runs with a new Dodge filter
and then do 3 acceleration runs with no filter in the box
.....no KN filters would be sold in the first place.

If Ram owners would do a similar set of tests
comparing factory filters, no filter, and KN drop in filters,
all KN filters originally sold would be returned for refunds.

If Ram owners would measure their IAT and MAP sensor readings
before and after buying CAI's
they would all return those CAI's for refunds....unless they like extra noise.

Want to have a 'honestly effective' cold air intake?

Go study the later year Ford Lightnings
that use the air conditioner
for a net horsepower gain on the air intake,
then build yourself a similar unit for the Ram

The man speaks the truth, but nobody wants toadmit it. If you like the sound and the looksbuild your own or buy an Ebay special and insulate it. I use a drop in filterso I don't have to spend $15 every time to replace the paper one.
