Default New truck and have some ?'s

Bought an '06 Ram 1500 Mega Cab 4x4. Lucked out and the thing has almost no options. I prefer to add my own nav/stereo, etc. What I need to know is:

How do I know if I have a limited slip diff? I searched and read another thread, tried putting one wheel on road and one on dirt, I left tread on the street. Does that mean I have it?

From what I've seen the SLT Mega (mine) has 4 wheel ABS standard, correct? Also, I have no Trac button so I assume no Trac Control.

How do I find out what gearing my diff has?

My alarm light comes on for a few seconds when starting the engine, but if I open the door after locking it with the FOB, no alarm. Only asking this in case it might be broken. It won't light when I lock via FOB.

Can the new retained power option of the '07s be fitted to the '06? My'01 Celi has that functionality in the door controls, so maybe a simple swap?

Guess that's it. This truck is a definate step up from my old '96 Laramie 1500 Ext Cab 4x4!

Do you have the book that came with the truck? If not you can get it on
the net.

retained power as in accessory delay? That's already on the 06's. Just need to go to the dealer and have them set it with the star scan. Window sticker should tell you if you have an lsd. It would be called "Anti-slip differential." Gearing should be on there too. You would actually be better off not having the factory and getting an auburn lsd for the rear.

3easy steps to check for LSD:

1 open passenger door
2 open glove box
3 read sticker (It's not thewindow sticker, but if you kept that, it would be there as well)

Seriously, not just being a smartass, my sticker gives me tranny id, gear ratio, and LSD. If your sticker is not there you can use the old school method.
Jack up truck, markdrive shaft near pinion yokewith white out or something like that, spin tire one complete revolution and count how many times the driveshaft rotates. About 4 revs equals a 3.92, 3 and 1/2 equals 3.55, etc. Although one person told me that with a LSD you would have to spin the tire 2 revs. You'll know if after the 1st rev it comes out to be a 1.75 or something.

As far as the alarm, I'm not sure what you are asking. If you use the key the alarm won't go off. Stand outside looking thru the window and lock the doors, the alarm light will flash fast for like 10-15 secs, then it should flash slow to show it is armed. Whether or not you use the key or the fob button, it should work the same.

And for ABS, look at the rear hubs, you should see wiring going to the hub for the speed sensor if it has ABS.

There is no Trac Control for 06

That light is the Sentry Key System checking the key. If that light does not blink when you lock the truck with the remote then you have not alarm installed. You can add them. You need the system that works with the Sentry Key. Also if you do not have 2 keys that will start the truck I would ask them to get you a 2nd, without 2 keys you have to pay the dealership to program new keys for you.

Follow this link and get a build sheet for your truck. It will list everything that was installed at the factory. It will be interesting. It takes about a week or so. Red

Midnight Runner, the manual is useless as it covers everything, nothing specific to my truck. The window sticker wasn't included unfortunately.

Cactus, thanks for the build sheet, I sent that off, can't wait to see what I get back

Duso02, all 4x4's have rear ABS so I assume the wiring would be there on all of them at the rear. Would it look similar on the front? I'll check for the sticker in the glove box, thanks!

Foiled, that's what I suspected. I did get both original FOBS fortunately, thanks!

djr04, I have a stress fractured rear passenger side window that's going to get replaced under warranty and I'll ask if they can do that when I bring it in. Anyone else had that happen? Supposedly a design flaw on the window frame. I'll get some picks later today.

Thanks everyone for your help!

Is there a traction control on the 07's?

the easiest thing to do is look at the tag or stamp on the diff cover. to tell you what gears you have.
