Default having trouble finding trailer ball

ok heres the deal im having a hard time finding a 2" ball to fit my bumper. my automotive teacher had an 02 ram that he just got rid of to get an f250 (he wanted a cummins but they gave him too good of a deal on the f250 and he couldnt find a cummins for anywhere close to that price) so he gave me his ball, but when i tried to put it on my truck it wasnt long enough to get the nut on there even a little bit. when my dad bought his old 03, he couldnt find a ball to fit it, even at the dealership, so he had to go with a frame mounted receiver hitch. the guys at the dealership told him that some trucks were that way and some werent. supposedly if you have a certain number or letter at a certain spot in the VIN number then your going to have trouble finding a ball to fit. at least thats what they told us, but im not too sure about the whole VIN number thing being true. has anyone else run into this problem and if so were yall ever able to find a ball to fit or did you have to go with a frame mounted receiver?

Try here. http://www.arrowtrailer.net/

A friend of mine is a part owner.

They have all thicknesses and lengths of shafts with a 2" ball on top. (that just kinda sounds wrong)

yeah i think im gonna go with a step bumper hitch. its a little stronger than just putting it on the bumper, but not as strong as a frame mounted receiver. its a lot cheaper though. i dont pull much, i need a trailer to put a couple (4-5) 4wheelers on, and im gonna be pulling a small 2 horse trailer occasionally, so the step bumper hitch will be fine for what i need to do.

and the ball didnt fit on my dads 07 either. i guess they must have changed the bumper a slight bit between 02 and 03.
