Auto or Stick And Problems?
Hi,
I currently have a dakota, which I have had nothing but problems with but I am wondering what kind of problems you guys have had with your 3rd gen full size rams. I am more looking at a 02-04 Hemi, 1/2 ton. So Any problems you have had with these could you tell me because I want to make sure I have a good truck and not make another mistake on this that or go another way.

it all depends...i've had this arguement with numerous people, all of which have said they have had tranny problems...i have owned 7 dodge trucks, and NONE of which I have had any transmission problems. My 04 is is working perfectly, my 02 had 129000 miles on it when i traded it in and it was working just like the day i bought it, my 96 was perfect through 90K, and my power wagons...well those speak for themselves with the 727TF in em
...it all depends man

I'm new to Dodge, and I'm happy, I'm surprised how happy I am with my Dodge Ram, I'm a odd ball, I need the 8 ft box, don't need two extra doors, and I hate automatics and had to step up to a 2500 to get the 5.7 with the 6 sp.
I like the dakota, but I hate the looks of the new ones and the dash set up and the dakota is two small for my full time truck duties.
A 4.7 with a 6sp would be awsome if you don't need a full size ram, Down side is the same drive train in a full size ram use's the same amount of flue as a dakota.
You will have to factery order a truck with a 6sp, dealers don't want them and it's all abought your preferance and driving style, I'm getting over 20 mpg with my truck ( topper dual ex )

I will have to see, because it seems to run in with dodge here, my dad owned a old caravan transmission issues. I have this dakota less than a year, problems with the tranny. I talked to the dealer, always here of slipping and problems like that. Trannies burning out. But nothing with the engines. Frankly If I am to buy a 15-20k vehicle it should work like new.
well the problems with the caravan transmissions is that they were being built with old machines and it allowed some of the tollerances to get out of what they should have, thats why if ya bought a reman if would be junk again before too long...the trans that is in your dakota is more then likely a 44RH, which yah is just complete trash....the 545RFE is pretty good, not nearly as good as the NAG1 in the grand cherokees, 300C's and so on...and the manuals are all switching over and using the Getrag which from what i have seen is pretty good as well

I dought I will go dodge with this, Maybe if I find one backed by a aftermarket trans. but More than likely I will probably head my way towards GM. They seem to have little or not probs with trans. Almost like toyota, which is another option but I would like the little more power from the gm.
