i just got done making a 900 mile round trip, and on the first 450 miles i used a k&n drop in filter then on the way back i used my stock air filter. my stock air filter got 1 1/2 mpg better then the k&n. i cant believe i wasted my money on that piece of junk k&n!!!!

My truck did the same thing with a K&N drop in. I am going to try the full CAI and see if its helps.

Sorry you got such poor performance with your K&N filter. I am at 2 - 3 mpg (average over 5 tanks of gas) better with my K&N over my stock filter. I hate to ask but was the first leg of your trip going uphill more than your return trip? Was there less of a load on your engine on the return trip? Did you forget to take your parking brake off on the first leg? There are a dozen variables it could have been including one of the rare bad K&N filters. I know your mind is probably made up to be anti K&N from now on but that's cool too. I'll still stick with my K&N filter.

if your gona spend 60-70 bucks on a drop in filter why not just buy one of the cheapy ebay intakes? i spent 65 on mine and it runs from throttle body to headlight. works great and i seriously doubt that somebody with the same mods and a more expensive intake will pull on me because of the more expensive intake.

Yep lots of factors here like Pirata said.
What method did you use to calculate you mpg?

From looking at your setup, I'd thinkyou were20+mpg @ 65mph MDS & cruse.

The best mpg I have ever gotten is 19.5 (manually calculated) with K&N
The best with stock filter was 18 (manually calculated)

Just my 2 cents

If existeda decent wind can do that. One way it was a tail, the other way was a head wind.

Yeah that overhead calculator isnt the most accurate thing i've ever seen and since you didn't reset it it averaged what you got with your old filter along with what you averaged with your new filter
