Default Air Horns - I think I want one

I am thinking of putting an air horn on the truck. Wanted to hear the good and the bads from you all before I buy. i would like to know where you put everything, how hard was the install, which one are good and which ones are bad and so on. One of the more important factors would be durability. I live in south Florida and with the temp, humidity, rain, salt water in the air, I do not want to buy something that is going to crack or crap out in a few short months.

Pic would be great if you have them.

Thanks ahead of time.

Are you planning on getting the locomotive horn or simply a airhorn? I want to get locomotive in the future.

i've though about this also. i want the train horn. i too live in florida (mid florida) and the heat and salt in the air would be an issue.

i don't know anything about them, but i'm curious about them too and would like to know for the future.

I live in Florida and I have the train horns installed with no issues at all. You want to make sure you get a good quality system and not plastic. I got mine from a company called Seige Engineering on EBAY. I got the 3 liter system and it works fantastic.
The install was a little tricky, took about 6 hours but if you take your time it will come out great.
I basically went to Home Depot and bought 2 pieces of the angled garage door brackets 6 feet long and cut them in half. I painted them black so you couldnt seem them when you opened the hood.
Then i mounted the compressor and horns to the angled brackets and put them just below the radiator between the frame rails and used self tapping screws to screw into the frame. Now there is a solid place for the compressor and horns to sit and doesnt take up space. Then I adjusted the horns so that they fire from just behind the front bumper.
THAT was the easy part, it was all the wiring and getting the airlines in correctly that was a pain.
Power wire from battery with fuse to compressor, grounded to the frame, then a only key on power wire from the fuse panel to the compressor relay so it doesnt run 24/7 if you have air leak down.
then a fused power wire to the secondary horn button i installed inside the cab, alot of people wire it straight to the street horn, but i wanted to be able to have that instead of the air horn all the time because believe me it is LOUD.
Then a ground wire to the secondary horn button all wired back to the horn relay mounted on the horns.
Also you want to make sure you have the shortest run of air line between compressor and horns so my setup is great for this.
I will try to take some pictures of how things are set up and let you see them.
If i can figure out how to post pictures on here or I can email them to you directly.

i purchased one, i only spent the 50 bucks instead of coughing up a couple hundred.
its a 12-V dualtone Airhorn.
Loud enough, i hav't had to use it yet, but when I do, Im certain people will stop.

Only reason I got it was because some little alberta riceburner punk decided to cut me off, pulling away from the curb. I got close enough to him, but he didnt even look back or show any signs of seeing me at all... now with the airhorn i wont need to worry.

i think the only time i'll probably regret not getting the full air system with the tank is if I ever need to pump a tire up in a hurry, but i have portable compressors for that.

On my way to have the Blue Beast tinted Saturday I stopped into Speed and Truck World in Fort Lauderdale ( Sunrise Blvd 2 miles east of I-95 for you South Florida brothers) and as you walk in they have an air horn display of three separate types. I couldn't get over the size of these monsters!

I'd love to have one, but the standard cost seems to be between $700-$900.00 plus install!

Either way, it's definitely on my wish list! Driving in South Florida traffic during rush hour will become an intereactive video game with one of these massive horns under the hood!

I have the Wolo Challenger 810ev big rig horns. You can get them from Wolo or look on ebay and save some bucks.

And I have heard good things about hornblasters, but havent heard them compared to mine.

You get what you pay for. Those $100 horns sound like crap.

I went with big rig horns instead of train horns because big rig horns are heard on the highway from time to time by the big rigs and they get attention, probabably got yours at least once.

The train horns are loud, but I've never seen a train on the highway.

I figure its all about mental association.
