K & N Drop in Ait Filter
I have not yet come to a census about the filter. I guesss I need more feedback. I am try to get more miles per gallon and more horsepower. Will a drop in K & N Air filter help out at all?
No, either get a CAI kit or nothing. A drop in won't do anything for you but maybe a half mile more per gallon. Not worth it.
DO a search and you will see, again don;t waste your money on a drop in.

Neither drop-in or CAI
will improve MPG
if a good careful test is done
with two matched vehicles
and an eye to details
like taking the temperature of the fuel before and after.
Chrysler, Mercedes, Porsche, GM, Ford, Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Audi
....they all agree on this
There has been intense competition
between arch rivals Honda & Toyota
for highest fuel economy vehicle sold
these last 5 years.
Before buying a CAI or drop-in
lift the hoods of
Honda Insight and Toyota Prius
and look at the air filter systems.....
There is one
"air filter system"
that improves engine fuel economy:
its a 'turbocharged intercooled' air intake
and you can see the newest version of this animal
on a gasoline engine
under the hood of the 2007 Volkswagon GTI

I bought a drop-in K&N for 2 reasons. One, being I'm not looking for every ounce of HP I can get out of the truck, so a CAI isn't in my interest, at this moment.
Second is I like K&Ns products and since I already have the cleaning/reoiling kit, I like not having to buy airfilters every 6 months or so. It basically pays for itself.
I also modified my airbox, opening portions of the sides, under the filter, to allow more air to reach the filter, other then just the snorkel in the front.
I don't believe they really do much for fuel mileage, and may help HPs a tad, (ever so slightly) but it eventually pays for itself, if the stock air configuration is all you use.

Here is my 2 cents
I have used K&N products for a very very long time.
What OldMoparMan says is true about the K&N drop in filter paying for itself in the long run.
However, consider this: more in - more out. I recommend doing Intake and Exhaust at the same time. Be it CIA and Duals or a simple drop in air filter and high flow muffler.
