You already have a cat-back system. Headers don't effect the sound as much as that muffler. If you just want it loud remove the muffler behind the CAT.

hello all! my name is frank and i have a 2005 ram 1500. i have a flowmaster cat back dual exhaust system on it and it sounds great. im getting a intake and superchips programer real soon. i was hoping i could get some help from all of u about other stuff that i want to do to my truck. i want to do headers. i love how they sound! i was looking at jba headers and gibson headers also. i dont know if there good but i read some where on these fourms that they were. if any of u have an idea of what is better id love the help. once i do headers i dont know what to do about my cats. do i just get piping and run no cats or is there a company that makes aftermarket cats for the truck. im looking for a bad *** sound and i think it would flow nice with my cat back exhaust. if anyone has an idea where i should turn for headers and cats and what brand that be awsome. any other suggestions to help would be great also.
I would actually stick with the shorty headers myself. the problem with long tube is that they change the location of the o2 sensor. I do know that they make o2 semsor simulators out there, but the performace gain is negligable. Long tube are typically for high HP applications. Oh, and keep the cats. They dod make high flow cats and if money is no object then by all means replace them. If you have some low miles on them, then just keep them for now. Curious, what size pipe did you use?

I think using that size diameter pipe is plenty for these motors. Unless you intend on using some sort of forced induction, shorties, high flow cats, and the Flowmasters will be all you need. As far as the cats go, if you really want to replace them, go for it, but I would rather use the extra money for the programmer. Hope this helps. Good Luck!!!

Headers and high flow cats would increase airflow and performance, but as far as sound is concerned the difference might not be as great as what you are looking for. Shorties would probably be the safest route, I haven't heard of people getting lean conditions with them like some report with longtube headers. If you want a complete system, Dynatech makes a longtube kit with headers, cats and y pipe if you want to go that route, but it is not cheap ($1k to $1.5k)
