I always turn mine on out of reflex anyways, like my seatbelt.

Me too. I got that habit back from Europe, where it's mandatory in many countries. For some weird reason it seems to have prolonged the life of my light bulbs - I only had to replace 3 in 5 years (110K miles).

Daytime running lights are a $40 extra when ordering a new truck, so I think $700 as mentioned above is very extreme for this feature.
Actually, it makes perfect sense. Most options like this are sold as part of an options package, and buying the parts independantly is outragious, if you want it later. I ran into this with Nissan I had, and I wanted to add factory foglamps, AFTER I bought it. $400 for the new front harness half with the wiring and $200 for 2 lamps....[:@]

You can guess what I did: AFTERMARKET.

You can always go the $75 route, and get a unit from JC Whitney and hook them up yourself.
