ORIGINAL: CMA
(Max tourque on the 4.7 hits at a lower RPM.)
Now I haven't seen a graph of the difference, but I had a 4.7 Dakota and it really didn't have much torque till it was screaming over 3500rpm. My Hemi Ram feels like it could drag the 4.7 all over town. Now, when you talk about "max torque" and what RPM it reaches it, remember the Hemi has 370 lb-ft vs the 4.7's 300 lb-ft. Without even looking I'll almost guarantee you that the Hemi hits well over 300 lb-ft before the 4.7 does. (at least mine does )

My Hemi Ram also gets better gas mileage than my 4.7 Dakota did.
Good luck w/ whatever you choose though!

if nothing else get the hemi for the resale value, eventually you will get used to it and be glad that you bought the 5.7 Its always better to go bigger than you think you need and have enuff to do whatever, than to go smaller and wish you had went bigger when you need the bigger one.....if that makes any sense

It is 23,500 new after the 6,000 cash back. 1% over invoice. Great looking truck youve got! The one I'm looking at is silver.

That price sounds about right. I just agreed to buy an 07 1500 Thunderroad tonight. My sticker was $34,080 and ended up paying around $26k with a Hemi and auto tranny. The $6000 in rebates sure helps!!! I went with Patriot blue, gray interior, and chrome 20's.

I went with the Hemi mainly for the extra power and towing since I have a 6000lb +/- boat. But, resale does help also. My local dealer only had a couple 4.7's, almost all of them were Hemi's. When I drove the Hemi, it had decent power, but nothing amazing. I'm pretty sure it will have better torque and towing manners than my current 04 Avalanche 5.3l.

I'm going to pick it up tomorrow morning. I will post some pix.

I just got back from the dealer. I've decided on the HEMI, but I'm really afraid its going to be much worse milage than the 4.7. I've been getting average of 18mpg with the rental SLT. This is being really careful with the gas pedal and staying under 70mph.

Dealer has the 4.7 with options Im looking for but is trying to find one with the HEMI.

go with the hemi dude. you'll get the exact same mileage if not a bit better due to the mds and the fact that the engine doesn't need to work as hard. the only reason I like the 4.7L is because I drive stick and stick only and that's the only way to get it in a half ton wit rcsb. if ur gonna get the auto tranny you may as well go to the hemi. for the extar 700 dollars.

I drive my Hemi 4x2 QC about 70mi per day, mostly highway. We have a lot of wind here in KS, but I see around 17-18 on the highway at 70 and around 15 in town. I hit 19.8 the other morning, it was calm wind and cool temps though.

The 4.7 isn't rated much better, it's your foot that makes the difference anyway. I got the Hemi just because I wanted it, no other reason. If you aren't hell bent on the Hemi and that 4.7 they have is exactly what you want, then go for it. Sure, the Hemi adds some resale, but if you don't want that, who cares. As long as you get what you want and aren't seeing another Ramdriving down the road with the options you wish you would've gotten (orgot and wished you wouldn't), it's all good.

The only thing I wish is that I would've gotten the chrome 20s instead of the silver, so when I see some chromies roll past, I am a bit jealous. But when I see a 4.7 roll by and I think he prolly gets a few more mpg, I think ah, who cares, I'll just go 69 instead of 70 to make up for it. [sm=shades.gif]
