Why is everyone putting the 180 degree thermostat in their trucks? I was wondering does it make something better or what does it do? Can anyone tell me why they are doing it.
Your trucks current thermostat is set around 210, they keep it high so that it can pass emissions. By putting a lower thermostat in your truck you help save engine life and can increase mileage(very small amount).
It isn't hard to install. It's just a simple removal of the serpentine belt and a hose after draining the coolant. With the 180 degree thermostat, I think the consenses around here is that it will cause your truck to get to temperature quicker and also make your air / fual ratio a little more rich which is imperative if one is running a programmer and performance headers together because the twowill causeyour mixture to lean out a bit, which causes the dreadfed "ping". I will be putting my headers on as soon as I muster up the courage....
Yeah i really want to put headers on at some point but i want to do some other things first. What kind of programmer would you recommend if i were to buy one for my hemi?
Oh yeah, with the 91 performance tune and 93 octane I felt a very nice throttle response from 2500 to 4500 rpms. My wife always yells at me when I step on it when she's in the car..... It is expensive but I feel it was a good purchase. If you do a search you'll see many threads on the topic and most people have only positive things to say.
No, the progammers are VIN specific. Once you program it to your vehicle it cannot be used on another unless it is sent back to superchips and "washed".
