180 Thermostat
why is that? either way my truck will run at the same temps. The thermostat will still open at 180 degrees no matter what the air around it is. Just like the stock thermostat opens at the same temp as everyone elses now.
damn this is the 5th thermo thread in like a week.....
many people have had tons of problems gettin cels and the code is coolant at insuffeciant level( to damn cold). even with my old stock thermo in at 203 in 30-40 degree weather here in texas in the winter, the truck was no where near the middle mark in the gauge. in the heat it sits right below it all day long. if thats the case then how come 203- isnt 203??. you will increase cylinder wear significantly at colder temps when the truck cant get closer to 200 degrees or so. when its cold as hell out your oil also will not be able to heat up enough to evaoparte the mositure in it as well. lots of guys keep the stocker and swap it in during the winter and back to the 180 in the summer

I beg to differ on cylinder wear. I'm not real sure where that came from. Maybe you meant less oil viscosity on hotter cylinders = less friction, and that is sooo minimum that it ain't really worth mentioning. On a side note I am running synthetic 5w20 and 5wAnything would do just as well.
What do you mean by Tons of problems? You only listed one. Is insufficient level - low coolant or is it too cold?
I would also like to add here that my Flashpaq would/can not only reset the code but ignore it if I told it to.
if your running a sc on performance tune you should already have a 180 due to the timing advacne....
the cel is not tons of problems just one ...my mistake.
total combustion is another issue and the lack therE of and carbon build up (jsut had the heads off of one last week and let just say it wasnt all that clean on the piston tops). a los of mpg is another you might run into. (most have said a lose of .5-2mpg.) and also you might want to read up in hemitruckclub and dodge talk as there are specific ones that will through the code in the winter and there is one i think they have found that will not.
oh and make sure that you get one with a bypass (has an additional spring) as changing the way the stock coolant flows has been strongly ill advised by other guys that build engines ( and the hemis) for a living
