now i thought high heat on engines caused problems? not staying cool. Isnt that like saying my truck's engine has a hard time sitting in the driveway because its not running and getting hot?

excessive heat causes problems. to little heat causes problems in the long run also. you gota find a nice medium. like cooking ribs, to much heat and the things burn, not enough and they never cook

Alright I went over and lerked around at HTC and here is the best post I found...

Here's a quote from a Dodge engineer on another site. I actually spoke to him before I did thismod. I wanted to make sure it was the right thing to do. Make sure you install a STAT with a bypass post, like the stock T-STAT has.

I also use a 180°F t-stat in my modified 5.7L Hemi Ram and have not had any problems. The 180°F t-stat will lower the under hood temps as well as the air inlet charge temps. The engine will also be a lot less prone to spark knock with the cooler cylinder head temperatures which is very important when the modifications that have been done result in a leaner air-fuel-ratio because of the speed density engine control system which is what the 5.7L Hemi uses. I highly recommend the use of a 180°F t-stat in all modified 5.7L Hemi engines.

As I read this I am hoping I got the right Thermostat (with the bypass post) it was a different part number for the 03 and up and alot pricer.

If not I can return it and getthe Stant 180 thermostat from NAPA, which is posta be the magic bullet. Even though it is 64mm you can trim it down to 63mm (if needed).

As far as Codes go I didn't see to many people say they got codes, their were some that were concerned they would get codes.

Some of the guys that lived in the "Great White North" still used 180s but returned to stock in the winter.

Only after I take out the OEM will I be able to compare them first hand.

Giggity! Giggity! Giggity! I am excited!

Found this on a 300 forum

I've looked into the Jet 10183 and it appears to be a good bypass-type stat. The only things that I didn't like was that it had the smaller flow opening and no bleeder hole/dogbone. I think that you would be fine if you used that stat.

Me thinks I saw a mode somewhere on how to drill the bleeder hole to boot.

I was reading the other thread about performance thermostats and this one.
I am not that familiar with them, all I remember was that my old mechanic told me that my 95 Neon did not need one in. He said that it was only needed in cold climates. So removed mine in the Neon and I guess it was always cycling. Anybody know if this is true and the advantage or disadvantage of it?
The lower the thermostat the constant cooling running through the engine, I would think makes it better, butthe engine in my Neon died due to water spewing out of the spark plug hole. Maybe no thermostat did it in. Just like Tootsie Pops, the world may never know.
