the valve looks smaller than the stock unit. Is this really a 5.7 stat or one that will just happen to physically fit?

I have some research to offer if it doesn't work out for you.
It was listed as 2003 and Up - 5.7 Hemi. Also I went to Jets site (Those who make it) and they had the same info but actually wanted more $$ for it.

I'll go bust out my Mic and see what the diameter is.

However you said you have Info, let us see.

The best way I can think of to describe it is...
When you start up your truck in the morning it feels more powerful (before it reaches normal operating temp) So I am trying to keep it a bit lower to increase performance.

Check out the link a few post up, its a dyno of a 180 thermostat only

I'm not speaking of the ouside diameter

compare the inside diameter of the valve

I can tell from the photos it is much smaller than the stock high flow unit

I have a post I'll try to pull over from another site

you may need to pull your stock stat to see the huge difference. Just because it is 63mm and
fits in the hole doesn't make it a good choice.
I tested 5 different PNs.

The stock stat is 203° and actually opens @207°

The 195 after market went to 200.

I tried modifying some 180 to get both the large frame and the quick warm up
blocking valve feature. I wanted the same internal diameter and travel to allow the same max flow the OE did. The small frame units don't allow the same travel and thus reduce coolant flow. I saw potential over heating in testing a small frame unit. The frame is the stamped retainer behind the stat
that holds the spring and thermal expansion unit to the flange.

I went thru numerous mfts. and photos to finally get a unit with the OE large
frame and the block off valve (washer and spring).

I swapped the OE spring and washer to the new after market unit.

This takes some patience and a trim of .02" or so off the out side flange since it is 1mm .04" larger diameter. I rigged up a fixture to help take it apart and reassemble.

The gauge shows 1/4 (185° per SC) and rises to less than half before my electric fan cools it back down if sitting still with A/C on.

I still get 22-23 MPG at 65 on trips. 14-19 around town.

The unit is a 13948 Stant. Around $9.00 at Advance.

I'll look for the photo I posted a few months ago. Attached Images ttached Images

Pappy,

compare the size of the valve area believe it is around 1.6" to the small unit you have

also the frame on the back is much longer and larger diameter

I have around 30 hours in figuring this out

Thanks,
Great info Lilhemi.

I heard that the new version Stant 180 was the magic bullet for the Hemi. But I had already ordered this one.
