i disagree that not taking care of your trucks paint makes it last/look better in the long run which was the point of what a few people said. when kenihemi said that he took care of his truck, i agreed and was happy that someone else with common sense chimed in
Once again, I ask, what specifically did the original poster say that is wrong? Washing properly, not using the damn machine washers, blow drying? It all seemed good advice, hell he didn't even try to say "this product is the best" as we all know how debatable that is. I've read your posts for good adviceand he seems to follow pretty close as far as I can tell so that's why I'm asking.

duso he was talking to the ppl that said it's better to just leave the truck dirty than to clean it at all not the original poster. He agrees with what the OP said not what a few others said dude. Perhaps you should read a little closer next time.

i was tired and misread it, i thought he was trying to convey that not washing your truck for over a year was better for the paint than washing it as needed...then someone after him said they dont wash their truck and their paint looks fine or something and i thought everyone was sayin not washin your truck was better than washing it over and over...once again, i was very tired and misread it

hey night_runner, what brand of "sealer" do you use
since i have had this truck (8-10 months) i have been out of zaino and just kinda slacked and never ordered any more...by the end of the month i plan on buyin some which should last me over a year (between the hawk and truck). i have used it in the past, and i know so many people that swear by it. with my 93 firehawk which i show, and is in mint condition, i love zaino, and most everyone that is serious about car care (ppl i talk to at shows) that dont use wax use zaino or tropicare. i myself have not ever used tropicare, but know many people that love it and swear by it. they are both great products. if you want a discount on tropicare, go to www.ls1tech.com and order it from the tropicare sponsor. i believe that sponsor also has good deals on porter cables. you can order zaino from www.zainostore.com .....you can purchase packages or individual products. i will purchase the total show car kit along with a few loose items...but the package depends on what want/have vehicle option wise

HI everyone.

All I was trying to convey about surface care is that its easier to avoid swirl marks if you take care of the finish. Some guys obsess over the finish, wash and wax it frequently, but I'm a firm believer that if you wash it gently, lay down a good coat of wax, that the finsh will remain protected and can be made to look new with just a little polishing. I dont believe that wax will wash off in the next cleaning and there seems to be evidence that when you wash your truck gently (dont scrub it) that the wax stays on and continues to protect the surface. If you wash the turck religiously every week, then sure, the wax will probably not last a year. However, if its got a new coat of wax and only mild surface dust (no bird crap or tar) and you wash it once every month or two, the wax will last a year, and the truck will not get any swirls

I said that its better to leave the dirt on the truck than to wash it the wrong way (which will cause swirls).

I see lots of car fanatics over doing it, when the best way to protect the finish is not go crazy with elbow grease.

straight from meguiars.com

i bolded a compairison for you

Your car is being constantly bombarded by contaminants each and everyday. All of these contaminants take a toll on your car's paint if the finish is not frequently washed and waxed.
Imagine what would happen if you only brushed your teeth once a year. The buildup could lead to costly dental repairs. And your teeth might never look as good as they did before.
Your car's paint is constantly exposed to the elements and needs regular care to keep it looking its best at all times. If you neglect your car's finish for a long enough time, a quality repaint could easily cost $4,000. If you decide to sell your vehicle without a new paint job, it could cost you anywhere from $500 to $5,000 in lost trade-in value, depending upon the age and type of automobile you have.

[blockquote]"You can expect from $500 to $5,000 more at resale time from a well-detailed, sharp-looking vehicle, instead of one that's 'showing its age.' (Actually more for exotics and collectible cars.)" -Detailing Cars & Trucks, Do-It-Right Publishing, Inc.[/blockquote]

There is no standard answer regarding how often you should wax. Many variables influence the life of the wax:
[ul][*]Type of paint[*]Condition of paint[*]Local environment (normal conditions and extraordinary events)[*]Number of hours exposed to outside conditions[*]Quality and type of wax applied[*]Quality of wash solution used to wash car[/ul]
That's why Meguiar’s is the first to provide car owners with a personalized Car Care Rx Plus that takes into account all of these factors. What is right for a car kept outdoors all day in the Midwest is not right for a car kept 80% indoors in San Antonio.
Another factor to consider is your personal desires for how your car should look.If you always want your car to look like it just won a car show,
then you can and should apply a pure polish or premium wax often.
Meguiar’s pure polishes can be applied as often as you like, even daily with no negative effect, and in fact will keep you car looking showroom new for the life of the car if you were in fact to polish it each and every day. Meguiar’s polish/waxes and pure waxes can also be used often for maximum protection and eye dazzling good looks.
Whichever product you decide to choose, the important point it is to begin a regular cycle of car care and stick to it.

you really want to wax your car once a year, be my guest but when you see me driving a car with beautiful paint in great shape, maybe you will think again....i do agree that you need to take proper procedures when washing/polishing/waxing ect, but if you did it every day does not mean you are more liable to ruin your paint. i dont do mine every day, but if we have good weather than bad then good, sure, i may detail my truck twice a week sometimes. but then again, i qualified for POCI nationals withmy firehawk....did you?

when was the last time your car made a callendar

i like to call this, sweeping the show...when was the last time you won 3 trophies at one show?

btw, its a 93

Whoa cowboy. Take it easy! No one said anything about your abilty to detail cars.

My car is seven years old and it looks that good. Granted its not rare, so it wont be winning any contests. But people think it looks new. Lets say its 95% as shiny, with only 5% of the work.
