need help with fault code 0404
Hi ,
I am new to the forum and found this one whilst trying to find info on an engine fault code that has appeared today on my 2004 dodge Ram 1500 quadcab. Its a 5.7 hemi. The code is 0404 that is an EGR flow fault. I have searched extensively on the net and can find no info as to where the EGR valve is located on the hemi , also a search in my Haynes (I know not a fantastic book) makes no mention of the EGR valve. My understanding is that the EGR valve can sometimes get clogged up with crap and so if all I need to do is remove and clean the valve rather than take it to a stealership and get charged both arms and a leg to fix it then I would rather do the job myself.
If anyone out there can supply info (preferably pics) as to where (if there is one) the EGR valve is and if I can correct the problem relatively easily myself , I would very much appreciate it.
Any and all replies are welcome
Thanks in advance

The egr is on the passenger side front of the engine, it has the tube that runs to the back of the intake. If you have that code you must replace the egr, also i believe for that year there is an update for the PCM. I hope this helps

Thanks for the info , I found the valve and removed and cleaned it , also cleaned up the pipe - quite dirty at the air intake end . I also used carb cleaner in through the air intake which is also pretty dirty , lots of carbon buildup on the back of the flap and on the inside of the air box - is this normal?
I added some fuel system cleaner to the fuel to see if that will help clean the ports etc.
Ran the truck again and threw another code but this time 0406 ??
Any advice now?
thanks
