Default Installed intake now engine ticking

Well this weekend I installed a knock off of the aem brute. It was nicely made but when i do slight accelration I can hear what sounds like the lifter making a ticking noise. If i do hard acceleration it has the deep roar that i wanted. I was wondering if this is normal. I have a full tank of 87 gas and was going to wait to put 91+ in it, to see it that would solve the issue.

If anyone has any suggestions please tell me!!!!

Next i am looking into putting a nice single pipe exhaust on it, like a borla or magnaflow.

Oh yeah I hope everyone had a good 4th of july weekend because i sure did.

actually it is fairly common. It is caused by a resonance from your EGR valve. Some people stop the noise by using an EGR baffle, which looks like a gasket with a tiny hole; however, I have no idea how safe it is to restrict the flow from your EGR so much.

I agree, normal egr tick. the stock air box baffles dampen the tick, the cai's seem to act like speakers and make it a bit more pronounced.

Don't sweat it, it's the EGR valve. Most of us with CAI have it (especially loud on the setups with steel intake tubes which kinda echoes & amplifies it). You used to not hear it because that huge stock piece of plastic on the intake would baffle it. You can get a baffle (usually just a piece of stainless steel, bent just right) but you just paid to un-restrict it, so why put money in a baffle to add air restriction?

If he put 91/93 octane in the tank and it stopped, are you sure it isn't detonation? Did you rotate the MAF sensor at all? Are you sure it is sealed at the TB? Just a thought.

Detonation sounds like dropping tacks on tile if you never heard it. Under WOT you may not be able to hear it due to the engine noise/exhaust or becuase you WOT may have enought fuel added it no longer detonates. Or it could even be bad gas, how many tanks have you ran through it?

a small vacume leak at one of the ports can also cause a tick sound.

Exactly, and un-metered air, cuasing a lean condition, cuasing detonation under part throttle.

a very small leak at the port will case a tick buy its self without being enough to cause detionation.
