Mine=04-1500-4x4-qc-4.7 sport with 3.92 tow pkg, 5 sp auto, 17" rims. I am very comfortable with this set up. I just dropped in a K&N air filter and have seen some improvement in low end torque and I think it is a little quicker when I step it down. I have filled the box and pulled a trailer with firewood (guessing 1250 to 1500lbs total additional weight). When using the tow lockout, this 4.7 and truck setup handles nicely.
I towed from phila to N.C and got 15.6 at 70 with the air on and a quad cab full of people. I think arcane must have a problem that went undiagnosed. Gas mileage is my only complaint. At home i average 11.7
i have a 02 4wd sc lb ram with 4.7.i dont have any complaints really.pulls boat great.getting 16mpg out of it.is got 29k on it now.oh yeah and i also pull a 1500lb 18ft deck cartrailer with a rock buggy that weighs in about 3500.thats 6k on the back and i get 10.5 to 11 mpg like that and i live on the side of a mountain.i dont have any problems with mine motor wise.mines all stock as of now.
Don't know about "worthless". With about $1500 in mods, I believe I can take a stock Hemi Quad Cab in the 1/8th and maybe the 1/4. Considering, I get better mpg and the price was about $6500 less than the exact same truck with the Hemi, I believe the 4.7L to be a superior engine, far less problematic (read some of the threads on the Hemis) and more modifiable. Once I get my 206 cams and 4.56 gears (along with my other bolt-ons), I believe that I should be able to take a stock Hemi QC....
Man I don't know how in the h_ll you guy's ar getting such awfull gas milage. I've got an 04 reg. cab 4.7 auto 3.55 with the 17" chrome clad wheels and I get 14 to 15 mpg in town. The truck has about 9k miles on it now, but when it had around 4k it got 20 hwy. that was at 60 to 70 mph without air. When I fill up I devide the galons into the miles driven. I never overfill the tank (a big no no), just till the pump clicks off.
I have a friend that had an 03 quad cab that got the same milage.
I'll bet I could drive mine with my foot in it all day and still get 13 mpg.

heck i get 16 usually and i usually have my foot in it pretty good.i drive a good mix of city and highway.getting10 to 11 with trailer and another truck on back isnt to bad.i run 87 only in it all the time.
I just purchased my First full sized truck ever. It is a new 2004, Ram 1500 quad cab, and I love it. I have owned a 97 Dodge Dakota king cab 318 and a 99 Dakota R/T 360. I love the truck and I've only owned it for two days now. I am very impressed with the motor and everything else about it.
Dodge, I'm home again. After being couped up in a Mazda/Ford Ranger for two years, I' glad to be back within a Dodge. MORE POWER!.

First of all let me say I love the 4.7. I've got an 03 Quad Cab 2wd w/ tow package and have been very pleased with every aspect of the engine. With 48,000 miles on it, I consistently average 16 mpg on my daily commute and have seen the milage as high as 21-22 mpg when on the open road without much of a load and held at 65 mph with the cruise. I tow a 3000 lb camping trailer and average about 14 mpg then. The only question I have for you guys complaining about gas mileage is this - If gas mileage is that big of an issue, why are you driving a truck? I knew when I bought my Ram that I'd be lucky to average mid-teens no matter which engine I got. I bought the 4.7 because the Hemi was still new and would have bugs to iron out. Mileage never once factored into the equation.
The only problem I've had is an internal coolant leak that has contaminated the oil. It's in the shop as I speak getting that taken care of. I'll post more when I find out what's going on.
Got word that the contamination I found was from condensation. OK - we'll see how that works out. At least I've got it in writing in case something goes bad later on. I'm planning on changing the radiator cap to see if that addresses the coolant loss that I've been experiencing.

Ok here is why i am compaining about gas mileage. I have a 04 qc with the 4.7 , i don't have a heavy foot and i get 11mpg. My friend has a avalanche with the 8.0 and he is getting 14mpg right now. I have always been a chevy guy but right now i think the current style is ugly and the only reason i would go back is for the better mpg.
