Default Best monitor to read OBD2 parameters

I would like to get an OBD2/CAN reader to monitor my transmission temperature when I tow. Preferably a dash mounted LCD display.

Also, my truck did not come with the overhead computer, so it would be useful to know when MDS is on, MPG, etc.

Which monitor would you recommend.

Thanks

I don't know if there is any kind of indicators out there to let the driver know if MDS is on or not. Since I don't have it, I don't worry about it, but if I was to guess you could tell if MDS is on by the sound (or lack there of) from the exhaust.

As for an OBD2 reader, most programmers out there have a code reader built in. Better off going that way. Most people here have the superchips, and in a month or two you could probably end up finding a bunch for sale here.

That's true but if they support all of those other Dodge vehicles including 5.7's then by default they should support ours. The last time I alked to them it wasn't that it din't work with a Ram, they just hadn't tried one in a Ram.

Looks like a pretty cool unit, but I would not assume that it will work in a hemi ram. Our pcms are much different than the ones in the other hemi vehicles. Probably because of our transmissions.

another option to consider:

http://scangauge.com/

to the best of my knowledge Actron does not sell a unit
that can be added to the dash easily
but their OBD-I Scantool has been reliable for me
for over ten years.

Thank you everyone for the suggestions. This is going to be harder than I initially thought.

Anyone have experience with either the DashHawk or the ScanGauge2?

I have the Scanguage #1, not the newer #2. I use it to check values of various sensors and to view/clear codes. It's a decent product for the money. The new one is a much better value for the moneythan the older one.
