Hemi or CTD?
What kind of mileage do you get in your '05 CDT? My last 6.0 Powerstroke got 16mpg in town and about 18 highway. My friends with CTD's claim 17/19 and better, would you agree with that?

I only put about 8-10k miles a year on my truck (I have a little 42mpg 4-banger to run around in), never tow more than 3,000 lbs., heaviest thing ever in the bed is my 650 lb. ATV, so the Hemi I have is even over-kill.
That said, if I had to do it over again, I'd jump on a CTD and never look back!
Bad thing is, I got so mush $$$ in mods on the Hemi, only just over 30k miles on the '04,so it will be a while before I can even think about replacin' it. But when I do, if I can squeeze out the extra $$$, it will bea CTD!!!
Sad thing is, when I got the Hemi, I had just gotten divorced, sold the house and split the cash, so I paid cash for the difference between my trade ('00 Chevy Z71) and it. I coulda' financed the lousy $8,000 difference and had a CTD. [sm=headbang.gif]

I gete aprox 15.5 mpg average, I do have a heavy food and a lot of idle time. I let her warm up for a good minute or two and also 2 minutes of idle before turning her off. I average 75-95 on the highway and streets I pretty much go with the flow of traffic. I am also running 3 inch tires. when I get a programmer I know I will see a significant increase.
I wasalso wrestling with this decision, but ultimately decided the Cummins is the way to go. Many reasons already posted here. Not sure about where you live, but I've been surfing Autotrader, Cars.com, and CarMax, and I can say from my local experience here in CA that 2500's with a hemi are quite rare. Even more so when combined with a long bed. So, seems like the majority of heavy duty truck buyers are going diesel.
As for price, just replicate the truck you are looking at in Kelley Blue Book www.kbb.com . Subtract current rebates from the invoice price and compare to the truck the dealer is selling. Dealers here were knocking around $12k off of last years' models. But, they subtract that $12k from MSRP. Basically the same as ordering through the fleet manager at invoice minus rebates.

Also a thing to remember: if I'm wrong on this correct me, but I recall hearing the cummins motor is covered for 100k miles. I've heard of cummins lasting over 500k, but most people don't put near that much mileage on their truck.
This dealership, like someother's, claim to be selling their trucks at invoice, minus all applicable rebates and minus 100% of the dealer holdback and are just charging a $289.00 processing fee. I'll check it outat KBB.com to be sure though. Thanks for your help.

I get an average 23 mpg on the highway, and dependeign how heavy my foot is in town I get 16-19. I have owned 3 powerstrokes and this is my first cummins, I will never go back. I want to figure out a way to drop a cummins, into a King Ranch F250. Then I would have the best of both worlds
. Dodge defiantly lacks on interior.

They are both great enignes.
CTD if you are going to tow.
The CTD requires more frequent oil changes with more oil, , plus the other diesel related stuff, but I think you know all about that.

sorry but your way off. oil changes are a lot less frequent. plus diesels are not as maintence heavy as gassers. you've got a fuel filter, air filter, oil filter, and oil. that's about it on the engine. no sparkplugs, plug wires, cap, rotor. none of that bs.
