How much would you say that your 14 ft. trailer & cargo weighed?
Trailer empty is 1800 lbs. I had a queen bed and wood frame. Leather couch and loveseat, solid wood dresser that is 5 feet tall and 2 wood night stands, 2 bikes, 2 lamps, an antique wood stereo, about 6 garbage bags of clothes and some other odds and ends. I would estimate that the furniture weighed in easily around 1500 lbs (maybe more). In the bed, I had an entertainment center, another wood end table, some other odds too. They about about 500 lbs. total.

What dealer are you going to?

Thanks again!

Will do. I'll be posting an update after the dealer's tranny guy drives it with the trailer on.

Cheers!

Massey-Yardley Dodge in Hobe Sound, Florida.

Even though they're not the dealer I purchased (this one, I have bought there in the past) from, they've been very accommodating. I have nothing bad to say about them at all, I would reccommend them to anyone local.

Do you have a 1500/2500/3500? It makes a difference. Also, what gearing? Does your truck have the towing package?

The Hemi Mega cab is classed as a 1500 with a 2500 frame with a class 3 hitch.

The_Bishop - My MegaCab is a 1500, but as L and R Two pointed out, it is built on a 2500 frame. As for gearing, I haven't looked into it yet, but that's one area where I may make a change to help me out, depending on what the existing axle ratio is, and what the next lower (numerically higher) gear set is. As for the towing package, yes my truck is equipped with the towing package, and if you missed it, I am using a 5th wheel hitch setup which doesn't alter the total load naturally, but it does help the truck handle the load better, from a suspension standpoint at least.

Well, I took my Megacab back to the dealer today, with my 27 ft. 5th wheel attached, and went for a test drive with the Service Advisor, and the shop's tranny technician. They both saw the way that it acted, and both of them thought that it wasn't appropriate behavior, but the bottom line is that there really isn't anything that they can do for me. They were both cooperative, pleasant, and professional, so there's no hard feelings either way.

It appears that my options are probably going to boil down to installing a tuner/programmer, and possibly an axle ratio change. I really don't want to incur the cost of trading/buying a CTD just yet, but that will definitely be my next truck choice.

Thanks guys!

Ithink that going to 4.56 gears would help cause it would give you that extra torque leverage to pull that trailer alot better thus reducing all that gear hunting from the tranny to get more power.

Well that all depends on my stock ratio. I have absolutely no idea what it is, or what ratios were even offered with my truck. Ifmy stock gearing is 3.73, for example, I wouldn't use anything much lower than a 4.10 ratio. If my truck happens to have the 4.10 gears already, the then 4.56's would definitely be the way to go.

I'll definitely be checking out what my current gears are!
