I have a 02 Ram QC1500 4x4 with the 4.7 liter that is only getting 12.8 mpg. What do you guys average in your trucks? I drive 60 miles round trip each day to work so the gas bill is killing me. What does the new hemi quad cab get? I have had this truck for two years and I am not happywith the performance at all. I will not even pull my bass boat with it. I use my wife' 05 6 cylinder 4-Runner to pull it with. Are there any mods out there they will improve MPG to around 15. I love the way the truck looks but is it worth the gas that I put in it each week.
I have a two into one flowmaster that splits into duels that exit out the rear. It has 20 inch moto metal wheels and Nitto Dune Grapplers on it. That it the only things on the truck that is not stock.
I am just wondering when do you cut your losses and just move on to a new truck.
thanks

I've got an '03 QC 1500 4x4 4.7 with a 5spd and I get about 16 mpg city/highway combined. All I've got is a CAI, other than that she's stock. I am only running 17s though, and can only imagine the loss in performance I'd get if I bumped them up to 20s. Those are some big wheels for an engine that's already a little taxed (in my opinion).
Despite the not so stellar performance, I love my truck and will stick with it. I hope to do things as time goes on to improve the performance, but who knows when they'll happen. If you're willing to take a risk and spend a bit of cash, you could see if you can get any more out of her. I noticed some nice improvement when I added the CAI. If I feel the same amount of improvement when I get around to doing exhaust I'll be quite happy. By what I've read from people here, about $1000 and you can get new 4.56 gears and a better LSD. I've heard it's a great mod if you're willing to put that kind of cash into the truck.
The hemi's with MDS are great, but I wish Dodge and everyone else would realize that it's just as important to shut down cylinders when you're sitting at a stop light idling and do something about that instead of focusing solely on shutting down cylinders when you're on the highway.

All I know is that if I am right, my V6 will smoke you in those 2-5 seconds

I think it would be a bit hard to do that. You would probs be complaining at the delay of starting up cylinders when coming from a dead stop. Imagine, sometimes you stop for about5 seconds at the light and then its green. I dont think the system can turn on cylinders just like that, it has to time it to follow the sequence. So you are talking about 2-5 seconds delay before you can feel all 8 cylinders pushing your truck. In those first seconds its going to be 4 cylinders doing the work. Maybe the technology is there and I dont know, but sounds crazy to shut down at a light.
