Ok, went and checked, my wheels are 17x8.

Most of the tires I have seen say they will fit 8.5-whatever. I dont think ill have a problem running them on my wheels.

Thanks for the help guys!

Default Ok, so I brought this thread back from the dead

i have read this thread and searched a little bit and I have a few quetions. I have an 04 QC "Off Road" Edition. It came with the off road wheels with are the same 5 star ones with the little raised nubs between the spokes. i dont have a picture currently but they also came on the 2nd Gens. What size wheels are these? I know they are 17's but are they x7 or x 8? depending on what these are, what is the biggest tire I can run and still be safe? I used the link; http://www.dakota-truck.net/TIRECALC/tirecalc.html to give me an idea of the conversion but i still would like to know just how big to go. I dont think clearance will be a problem because before I install the tires I am going to add a 2.5 inch leveling kit. can you all please help me? thanks.

You could easily clear 33x12.5 and they will fit your stock wheels. 12.5" wide is the absolute widest I'd put on those stockers though. The lift kit would clear 35s, but backspacing would be an issue with stock wheels. Also, the 35" tires won't leave much room for flex if you take it off road or hit any decent bumps for that matter.

so to get rid of any problems i might have i could go with a 285/70/17 (33/11.22/17) and be alright?

You WON'T have an issue with 33x12.5x17s but that would be the widest I'd put on the stock rims, although the 285/70/17s would be fine too...

I have 285x70x17 Khumo AT's on my truck (they came with the truck) and they ride extremely nice. Very quite and very smooth. There is alot of siping on these tires which is nice because I don't have weight in the bed of my truck and I still have great traction in the snow and rain. In real wet conditions I can get up to about 2400 RMPS before they would start to spin. And in the mud they do a pretty good job for an AT. I have gone through some stuff that was about the depth of the bottom of the door and didn't have a problem with traction.

question: if i do want to go with the 12.5.s and you say that backspacing is a problem, are you saying that i would need adapters (not spacers obviously) to get them to work?

Yeah, you might have a problem with them rubbing. I have 285/70/17 Toyo Open Country AT's on my stock 17x8 rims, and on occasion, I get a bit of tire rub. The 285's are narrower than the 12.50's, so I would guess you would have the same problem.
