The diesel is definately better for gas mileage, and for lifetime on the engine. But one thing to consider is do you have the use for the diesel? It will cost more up front and maintenance is more expensive. If you have use for the diesel i would definately suggest going that route. If you dont really need a diesel though i would suggest the hemi, it is a very good engine.
The one thing I have to disagree with is the maintenance being more expensive. I have had both. Have the cummins now. The Hemi seems to be more expensive. Spark plugs and all ignition parts are non existant on the CTD. look at the benefits. pull a 1500 hemi up to any CTD on the lot and look at the Axle housings, I love when I get behind a 1500 (especially Chevy) and see these little tiny rear ends and Straw like axles. Everything is beefed up to last a long time (drivetrain speaking) higher resale, if there ever is a gas shortage we will nto be affected as we can ultimately make our own. to get mods you get more bang for your buck with diesel. look at the superchips website and compare the power differences for a flashpaq 3815 and 3805. same price. Hemi is a great gas motor and please do not tell the people on the Cummins section but I was looking at pics of my 1500 and missed it. I also missed ( I will get killed for saying this) My 90 toyota. but every vehicle somehow becomes part of the family.
