I am new to all this forum stuff So I am looking for some advise. Here real soon I will be buying a new 08 mega cab. with all the bells and whistles that I can get on it. I am think I am pretty set on the cummings 6..7L. If any one can tell me what the pro and cons are on what I should get and what not. Plus Iam looking to do lots of mods. So I am looking for advise there. also looking for places to look for stuff and stuff to read up on. For example what mods to improve miles per gallon and to improve power. Thanks
As far as the engie goes, I won;t be much help. There is a section just for the cummins engine that would be better suited for that. As far as interior, if you can, go with the leather seats (unless you plan on doing alot of offroading or messing them alot). The cloth seats are a pain to keep clean. Even though they come clean with just a wet rag, it seems I am always cleaning my seats. The radio sucks no matter which one you get from the factory, so don't spend the money on the top of the line on they have, just go with the basic and replace it. As far as engine and exterior mods, there are alot of vendors on here that can do pretty much anything you want to the truck looks wise and power wise. It will all come down to what you like.

the gears have a lot to do with what time of driving you are gonna do considering if you drive around town a lot it is a a lot of stop and go and the 410 would be better for that because it is less work for the engine where on a highway with the taller 373s you will be able to cruise at a lower RPM and adn that is where you would be saving gas.... i have 373's on my truck and will eventually put 456's in it because i am going bigger tires and a lot of my driving is city.... as far as a ctd he isnt towin much weight and the initial cost of a CTD is extremely high which is the only reason i dont have one... i tow a 7000 pound boat all summer like its nothin..... just my .02

Why dont you just get a cummins then. You seem to do an awful lot of towing, so a 3.73 cummins would be perfect.
totally agree. if you do any bit of towing on a regular basis get the CTD and never look back. i believe his name comes from the 09 ram where supposedly there will be a 1500 with a v 8 diesel option.
