Default 1st oil change today

Wow, bought the truck brand new July 4th week and already rolled 3,000 miles. I went with Mobil 1 synthetic and K&N oil filter. I hope to see an improvement in milage. Btw, why do those yahoos at the factory have to put the oil filter on so freakin' tight? [:@]

Yeah it was on damn tight and for a while I thought I was going to have to drill a hole through it and run a screw driver in the filter to get it off. But it didn't come to that point. One thing I like about the K&N filter is the 1" nut on the end, no more wrenchs!

I just ordered a Mag Hy-Tech rear differential cover. I has some nice features like a magnetic drain plug and a dipstick to check fluid level. It should be here some time later in the week. Anybody know if Dodge puts synthetic in there from the factory or conventional oil? The Mag Hy-Tech hold 2 more qts. so I don't know if I just need to add or replace all of it.

I don't have the 2007 service manual, but for 2006, all rear axle lube (except in the 248RBI) is synthetic.

As for why filters are so hard to get off for the first oil change, evidently the put something on the engine at the factory (with the filter on)... enamel I think I read... and that is why.

The owners manuel, a novel idea!Yeah it says to use only synthectic so that is what's in the rear. My diff. cover has still not shown up yet but I will just add the extra 2 qts. and pour the rest of what came out back in as long as it looks good.

One bonus I found on doing the oil change. The oil filler tube has a huge opening and you can pour the whole 5 qt. jug in without a funnel which speeds things up. I like that!

Okay the mag hy-tech came in this morning. Took me about an hour and half to change everything out. I was very surprised at how black the fluid that came out was at only 3,000 miles. I put Royal Purple back in. This should make changes lighting fast in the future.

Yeahit's not cheap for sure. It is quality all the way through though and will outlast the truck. If I keep this truck as long as my last one (14 years) the mag hy-tech will of paid for itself by allowing quick fluid changes.
