Default RE: K&N CAI Installed

just last week i installed a k&n CAI on my 07 and its kinda weird cuz my heat sheild looks nothing like yours mine is pretty much square where yours slants toward the front, and i only have a small amount of space around the intake tube. as far as sound goes on mine you can really hear it sucking in air and im not positive but the exhaust seems to be louder (both only under hard accel. at higher RPMs)

You probably have either the 57-1533, or the 77-1533. Mine is the 63-1533.

Nice install write-up. I had to drill out my tube for the intake sensor like was stated on page 1. Kinda sucks to modify a $200 part on a brand new system, but it works.

I am looking into a Volant CAI. I might spend my money on than rather than the K&N. Again, it looks great dude!

I think as long as the intake is operates as it's intended to and gets massive amounts of cooler air to the motor the brand is obsolete. I went with the AFE high breather stage 2 simply because of the massive filter, powder coated metal heat shielding box and the large polymer tubing and love it. They do charge a pretty penny for them. got it off autoanything because they gve me 10% off. It was a toss up between the afe and the aem bruteforce for me. I never realy considered a k&n intake. I thought they were overpriced and the performance gains didnt seem as high as some of the other intakes.

40-70 mph stopwatch timed runs are good way
to measure power gains
without the traction inconsistency problems
of 0-60 runs.

If you want to detect even smaller changes in power
before and after 40-70 runs up steep hills are even better
because they lengthen out the time so small differences
can be noticed better.

Nearly all cell phones have good stopwatches built into the menu items now.

Some MP3 players have digital voice recorders that show the time down to hundreds of a second. These can be used to record times between 40 and 50, 50 and 60, 60 and 70 mph, etc.

With either a MP3 recorder or a video camera
you can record acceleration from speed to speed
and then use this 'on-road dyno'
to calculate hp changes:

http://www.bgsoflex.com/dyno.html

If there is any gain from an aftermarket air system
the IAT and MAP sensors will show it.

I can big time hear mine sucking air when I stomp it, at least before the EGR valve kicks in and drowns out everything else. It woke up my exhaust also, made it a little louder and a lot deeper or throaty-er (is throaty-er a word?).
If I ever get my LT Headers from the ceramic coating shop, I'm anxious to hear what that does to the exhaust sound...

As stated above, great write up. I also had to drill out the tube for the intake sensor, of course that was after I snapped the the first sensor on a Sunday afternoon which was followed by a sick day on Monday so I could get the new sensor and finish the install. I will say that I made a miraculous recovery once I took her for a spin.

On a side note, this is my first post and I'd like to thank everyone for all the helpful info provided on this forum. Been a long time reader and hope to be a little more proactive going forward. Thanks again! - Rob
