Ok well I've been having this noise in the rear diff of my truck now for about the last month or so...finally got the extra money rounded up to buy some parts so i bought the Auburn LSD, along with a set of 4.10 gears and all that good stuff......well i got the rear diff tore apart tonight and as i was turning the pinion it felt like it had a rough spot on it, so i got the pinion out and just before i took the pinion out all these little peices fell to the bottom of the diff [:@]
well i pull the pinion out and set it on the toolbox, start lookin at it, and this is when i see the problem lol.....awhile back i had the pinion seal replaced cause it blew out on me....so i took it to the dealer for a warranty claim, which they did under warranty....well what your suppose to do is take note of the torque it takes to rotate the diff before you take it apart and then add 2 in. lbs....well the dealership didnt do that (or so i'm assuming) and also to note I had the pinion seal replaced at 45K.....so anyways, what ended up happening is I'm pretty sure they just cranked down on the pinion nut untill it was tight and called it good...however, not so good as it put too much pre-load on the pinion bearing and therefore cause the failure (which was the bearing was missing about a 1/4 of it) so yeah....dont let the dealership do your pinion seals, do them yourself lol
i'll post up some pics either tomorrow or saturday and let yall see the destruction lol
