4.7 Water Temp
Hey Ram Owners, I need some forum advice ona 2002 Ram 1500, 4.7Magnumwith 92K miles. The past couple of weeks I noticed the water temp slowly creeping towards the center mark of the water temp gauge. It normally stays near the 1/4 mark. I've changed a bunch of parts and I'm still at square one. Hopefully someone else has been down this path and has some advice. Here's what I've replaced:
1.Drained the radiator, dumped inPrestone Flush (ran 20min). Added new Anti-freeze- No Change
2.Replaced theserpentene drive belt (water pumpturned freely) - No Change
3. Replaced the thermostat - No Change
4. Replaced the Radiator cap - No Change
5. Replaced the entire radiator, add new coolant - No Change
6.I'm running out of parts & money... What next ?? Fan Clutch, Water Pump
City streets or freeway traffic driving makes no difference. The water temp climbs to just short of the mid point and hoovers. Water Pump face is clean, no leakingthat I can detect. I have no ideahow to tell a fan clutch is bad. Help!

2 things come to mind...
1.) Is your fan clutch working? Is the fan relatively tight to spin or is it loose and sloppy?
2.) Is the electric fan working on your a/c condensor?
My 02 4.7 runs 1/8th inch lower then the center line. It ran right at the center, when I discovered the fan clutch took a crap and my fan was spinning pretty freely.....
FWIW: DC gets $242 for the fan clutch. NAPA gets $59. Make sure you get the "long shaft" clutch, and not the Hemi's "short shaft"......

I checked the fan resistance after running the truck 20 min, andthe fan turns pretty freely. I suspect you nailedthe clutch is the culprit. Here's a pic of the gauge just befor I checked the fan.
