Looking to get into an '04-'06 any input would be great!!!
New to the forum and am looking to get into a Ram 1500, 2004-2006. Need to get some input on wether to go with the 4.7 or the Hemi? What is the difference in MPG on the two? I would like to get into a 4x4 but that really doesn't matter. Any input would be great.
I have an '04 Hemi QC 4x4 and love it. I've had 4x4's since I was 16 and I'm 40 now, about a dozen in all, and this, by far is the best truck I've ever owned! Bought it new off the lot and 3 years & 34,000 miles later I've not had a single problem. I have friends with the 4.7 and it's not bad. A 4x2 in regular cab with a 4.7 would be a nice truck. If I was going quad cab or 4x4 or both, then I'd really look at the Hemi. MPG is only a mile or two per gallon less in the '04 & '05's and might even be better than the 4.7 in the '06's thanks to MDS.
BTW: If you have not done so, skip over the the Ride of the Month section and vote for Car & Truck of the Month...

I agree with Hammer 100%. I love my little 4.7L, but I've also got a little truck. Anything extra and you'd be wishing you had the HEMI.
i would also like to agree, the hemi makes all the difference especially if you go for the 4x4, the quad cab is a lot of extra weight, so you will really feel the diference in the qc, not gonna lie, i have an 03 and i get 13 mpg, but would not trade it for anything.
Okay Hemi with QC. Okay now is anyone running the Hemi in the QC with 3.92's what kinda MPG are you getting now. Alot of the trucks that I see have 3.21 in them that in my opinion is a waste!!!!

I have a 4.7, and I have driven a 5.7hemi. There is deff a difference, but all I needed mine was to move flowers and random gardening things. If you are wanting something to go and drive around on friday nights on the strip then get a 5.7, if you are looking for a reliable truck that looks good stock and aren't worried about power then go for the 4.7. I will say that the power in the 4.7 isnt bad at all. Its just no hemi
Nothing less than 3.92 IMO. Once again, I think the only instance where 3.55's fit would be in a 2wd, single cab truck. And if you'd ever think about bigger than stock tires or towing, then I'd be wantin' 3.92's there too.
"On paper" the 3.55's would give you better mileage, but we don't live on paper. Unless you are consciously using a light foot, you giving the same vehicle more gas to accelerate with the 3.55's than you would be with 3.92's. Therefore, anywhere except on the open highway, you usually experience better mileage with the 3.92's. And you will get better performance with the 3.92's.
