MPG for Mega 4x4 hemi?
10 is more realastic as the truck breaks in, now to add to your dismay, my reg cab 2500 4x4 slt 5.7 6sp averages 14mpg city, highway at 60 mph, I have manged a high of 21 mpg, no mds but I did add dual ex.
The rear gearing is also a facter, with that much lbs, get a 410, the hemi is great but if towing and milage is a issue, the CTD is the wiser choice as torque, not h/p is going move that monster.

my 06 megacab hemi has 14000 miles gets 9.5 to 11.5 in town. thats heavy foot to light foot take off. take of is the big factor on my 4x4 as it is so heavy. hwy i've got up to 16.5 flat ground at 65 mph. hitting traffic or hills or running over 70 can pull it down to 13.5 as a rule. also lower gear ratio will raise rpm's at highway speeds i.e.4.10 will use more gas at speed than a 3.73.
Get the diesel, it is worth it for many reasons, you mentioned towing. there is one advantage, you will have a higher resale and you will have a motor last you 500,000 miles easily. less moving parts, more upgrades and you have that wonderful diesel sound. If possible I would try to get one of thelast 5.9's on the lot. Great motor.
Mine doesn't have the 4x4 but I get a 13 mpg avg city/hwy mixed and I have a lead foot. I am driving around 80 to 90 mph on the freeway and in the city, gas mileage jsut sucks no matter how you drive. When I took a road trip and used cruise control I was getting around 17 hwy until I hit the mountains then it dropped to about 15. The only towing that I have done so far was towing a 6x12 covered uhaul. Estimated total weight with trailer, load, and bed filled with furniture was right around 3500 lbs and I was getting 11 mpg in tow/haul mode, flat road, cruising at 70 mph. I am guessing on the weight though, the trailer empty is 1800 lbs according to uhaul and all the furniture that was in it was made of real wood and heavy as hell.

Jimmy I was leaning to the diesel. But, after hearing all the problems with the new 6.7 engine, I will wait. In the meantime I will satisfy myself with a mega 4x4 hemi. Also, does anyone know if the acceleration from a mega 4x4 hemi with 3.73 gearswill be significantly better than a quad cab 4.7 with 3.55 gears?
According to my scan gauge, and fuel mileage calculations, I average : (with @1800 miles on her)
City : 13-14
Highway : 18-19
Mix : 15-17
Mileage noted is predominately with AC off, lop off about 2-3mpg with it running.
My truck has the 5.7 Hemi with 4.10's, 4X4. I tend to very passive on acceleration (no sense trying to drag-race when you drive a house with 4 tires, and I am not in that big of a hurry tobeat someoneto the next red light, or gas station), and I stay between 60-70 on the highway. Best part is the truck gets MUCH better mileage than the truck I replaced, (2003 F150 Lariat Supercrew, 5.4), with LOADS more room and a more powerful engine. I love technology
