r extended shocks needed to level??
i have an 07 ram 4x4 1500,the guy told me that extended shocks arent needed for the 2" coil spacer leveling kit i ordered from HELLBENTSTEEL,they specialize in ford and dodge.just wanted to know how true that is mind you my truck wont be going in the woods at all, just wanted to get rid of the sagy front end, curious to see how many ppl didnt change shocks and if they are bottoming out on the rebound........
I just put a leveling kit on my 02 1500 std cab and upgraded the shocks to monroe<sp?> reflex...supposed to be the best monroe has...(I needed the shocks now, could not wait for bilsteins in the mail). The guy could not tell me if there was any difference in travel in these and stock, but they were the stock length. Love them, and over even the roughest potholes in Houston they are fine.
My 2005 is different than your 2007, but I can tell you from my own truck that I recommend longer shocks for any leveling kit. The stock shocks will most likely work, but you'll be near the maximum length when sitting flat. So think of when your suspension rebounds after a larger bump. The only problem I see with longer shocks on a leveling kit, is that mostly likely your longer shock will not limit your CV joints (boots) contacting the lower control arms like mine does. Just my $.02
yea but ur 05 doesnt have coils it has torsions.right?i called a couple different shops today and they said with the coil spacer ontop of your coil acting like a longer strut would not change the shock travel it would just shorten the rebound just a half inch or so and if so it would be minor,he said it would be a waste of money...i dont know some say change and some disagree..being that my shock runs up the middle of the coil this means i would have to disassemble the strut i think, somthing that im not looking forward to!!!
I put a leveling kit from hellbent steel in my buddies 04 4x4 150. He has not complained said it rides fine. My 2wd dodge I put my leveling kit in yesterday, and I used the stock shocks because a lot of people said its fine. Its horrible... the shocks are out of travel so the tires come off the ground even going slow over and bump..
lol thanks for rubbing it in. Perforamcelifts told me I didnt, along with other sights. I guess if you think about it you dont even need shocks, But your ride will suck like mine!! My buddy ford actually didnt need shocks. but fords a better built product. haha

pull your shocks completly out. i drove around for a couple days with no shocks up front, just coils rode much better. but it had too much travel and my control arm was hitting the shock bucket so i put them back it. after the alignment and new tires it rode sooooooo much better, but new shocks would make it perfect.
